Ok I know I have heard something about RA and clumsy hands before but this is awful. A short while ago I just about dropped a perfectly good container of baked beans and then about 20 min. later dropped and spilled something else. Seems like lately I have been extra clumsy. It there a specific reason for this happening in RA. Should I bring it up nest time I see the RD? I am so frustrated. HELP! ! !
I never had any trouble with clumsy hands until I got RA. My hubby jokes with me all the time about it. I never brought it up to my RD, I just figured it was all part of the wonderful world of RA. I do notice that the worse my knuckles feel, the more clumsy I am.
Yes I have clumsy hands! I knock things over and drop things all the time. I think it's because sometimes my hands feel numb fro swelling or stiffness or something.... I've been clumsy ever since I figured out how to use my hands and feet. Some in my family would argue that I've never actually learned how to use my hands and feet. Oh and I'm not advocating beer and/or xanax to treat clumsiness I am clumsy handed, too. I just try not to do much LOL! No frustration there. Sometimes when I reach for a pencil on my desk I throw it across the room instead! It's like my hand has a mind of it's own. I think many times we are pre-occupied with the pain and just get clumsy. Try sitting down. Grab a jar and see if you are squeezing it OK and not shaking etc. Do you get twitching at all?
Since I've had RA, my hands seem to have become less coordinated than they used to be. As my hands became more and more deformed and started to sway badly, it seemed that I adjusted and although there were some things I couldn't do with my hands, people were surprised at the things I COULD do. Wifey was still very cautious about me carrying things around though, especially breakables. Carrying bottles of wine were a no-no!. After the surgery to correct my hands, I've lost a lot of strength and with that, a lot of confidence too. Don't get me wrong, my hands are very usable and I'm happy with them, it's just I'm lacking the strength that was once there and I've become very conscience of my limitations.

No I don't get any twitching (hope I never do) but I can't open any jars, milk containers, coke bottles/cans. Just about anything I have to open is next to impossible. I will say though that my hands will just let go of things with out my knowing it. I am not sure if that makes sense. At times I know I picked it up but next thing i know it just goes right out of my hand to the floor. So aggravating.
Is twitching an RA thing?
Mom2three, it makes a lot of sense to me. My hands will suddenly, unexpectedly just let go of things also. I thought it was just me!
I have clumsy hands too. In the morning when I make Mark his eggs there are so many ruined eggs each week. I cant crack them without smashing them.
I drop things all the time and have trouble with zippers, jar lids and anything that requires strength in my fingers which I no longer have. Very frustrating.
