Ok just want to ask some questions as i'm an immigrant and some say ignorant foreigner.

At this moment i would not qualify for disability, and i understand what that means and the ramification.  now americans with disabilities, i know this is an act, is it also a group with membership, is it something i need to know more about?
The Americans with Disabilities Act is a law which regulates  how disabled people are treated in public accomodations and the workplace.

example. new buildings such as stores etc must have bathroom facilities that are able to be used by someone in a wheel chair etc.  elevators etc must have braille indicators as well as readable numbers.  Public buildings of more than 2 floors MUST have elevators.

People with disabilities must have reasonable accomodation made in the workplace and their disability can not be counted against them in hiring/firing practices all things being equal.
So.. if the job absolutely requuires  the ability to get up and lift 50 pounds and walk 50 feet with it, then a quadripeligic will NOT get that job.

Otoh if its a job that involves reading a screen etc,  then someone with no legs CAN be hired.

Various groups of people with disabilities have their own organizations.. Disabled American Veterans..DAV, United Cerebral Palsy, American Council of the Blind.. in other words   each has their own group for advocation and support.
Hi Clufus,
Link below with information on your rights.  Definitely take some time to educate yourself on your rights, call the hotline with questions.   A reasonable accomodation could be your work schedule or working from home if the job can be accomplished away from the office.   Doesn't mean that anything you ask for will be accomodated, but be aware of your options.   There were amendments to the ADA effective Jan 1st which changed the definition slightly, to the benefit of employees.
