But I just like how the doctor says... Rheumatoid Arthritis is his favorite subject. I think he even says it with a smile on his face. Why not poor beached whales? Jan, did you watch the video? I love to read youtube comments!   No, no time now but I am always interested to see who finances things.I can't watch at workHere is part 2

and the NIH.  I watched part one... no real endorsement for TNF drugs, just early aggressive treatment for best prognosis.  Very informative video on RA.  Thanks Joonie.

Yes, I saw this one a couple of times.  I think I posted this link here before. I used to spend a lot of time looking at the arthritis videos over there on youtube. the sjogren's videos and other videos of conditions I deal with.

I noticed he was just a little too excited about the RA also in calling it his favorite subject.  It sure isn't our favorite subject.  I hope he means this is a mystery he is very interested in solving.  Because to the RA sufferers it is more like a subject we were forced to study and talk about for survival.

Thanks for posting this Joonie.

Part 2 is even more interesting than part 1. It seems that smoking cigs is HIGHLY correlated to getting RA just like it is for lung cancer and heart disease.

I was a smoker. But I think I had RA before I started smoking at age 13.

How many of you smoked cigs before getting RA?
Me Thanks Waddie. Brave LadyI smoked....... but not before DX at age 10 years!!
I can't get the damn utube to load...... arghhhhh!!I watched the videos! Both of them!.....Second one rung my bell with the cigarette smoking...I have to quit...I have to quit...I have to quit......

Thanks Joonie.......
I have never smoked...It's the NO uptake.

My opinion -

Pip
No, never smoked.
But lived with 3 heavy smokers, mom, grandpa, and grandma. so does second-hand smoke cause RA?
What does Abbot make?  which RA drugs? if any.Humira, Jan. I see.  Thanks. Your welcome, Jan.

Hey Jan.  I just was wondering if you were trying to comment on the video, Abbot and Humira or if you just really didn't know you could google that and get the info.

I understand you don't agree with big pharma,  but I wonder if you realize how you make those of us feel who, with the info in hand, have talked to our doctors and have made a choice for the use of biologics?

I really not trying to start something, just trying to understand.  Thanks.
I don't know how you feel.  I would think if you talked to your doctors and made a choice for biologics, you would feel O.K.   Thanks Jan, that's pretty much what I expected in answer to my question.
Your welcome, Jan.

Understanding is a good thing waddie Questions like who is financing this.(sigh)  Did you ever find time to watch the video, Jan?   Ahhhhhhhhh waddie, I feel your pain Maybe she is watching it now.
As stated previously it's funded by U.C. Davis and sponsored by Abbott.

If a cure is sponsored and funded by Abbott in partnership with NIH then who cares.  I certainly don't think it will stop anyone that has RA from seeking the cure.  It's conceivable that a future cure will be found and will be developed with pharma money and outside research money.   Does that mean that people won't want to be cured because pharma money was used for research and advertising?  I'll be the first one in line and I bet I see all of you in line also.  Lindy
I'll fight ya for that first spot, Lindy!     Amen to that!
What you've said is absolutely true, Lin, but this thread isn't about a cure, it is about a youtube video.  I don't see what the problem is with considering the source of the info.  For example, if the new Pfizer/Wyeth develops a cure or even the hands-down best treatment available, it isn't likely to be mentioned in a youtube video sponsored by Abbott, is it?

I don't understand why knowing the source of information is painful or controversial.

My point to Jan yesterday was:  1)  She should WATCH both videos BEFORE commenting on them.  2)  The videos did not hide their ties to Abbot, their sponsor, nor did they gloss over the side effects of the use of biologics.  In fact, Dr. Michael Weisman, Director of Rheumatology, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Proffesor of Medicine, UCLA School of Medicine (whew!) said about biologics was "New biologic agents, although amazingly effective, may have unintentional consequences."  3)  Don't make hit and run comments that allude to how gullible those of us who actually watched the video are :(my interpretation and, yes, my feelings).

Thanks for listening and I truly hope I did not offend anyone.  It is so hard, sometimes, to get your point or comment across without sounding aggressive or mean when you are typing instead of face to face.  I realize I am being defensive here and I am sorry for that.  If I have misjudged, I sincerely apologize.  If not, I hope we can continue to have discussions like this.
