What is it about prednisone that makes you eat cookies even when you have no appetite at all?

Chips Ahoy- yummy!
That is too funny.  I am eating chips ahoy as I read this.  Thanks for the laugh!  Hiking_galI love Chips Ahoy, but seriously.... when I am on prednisone I can almost
eat anything that is not moving!!

Oh and one more thing.... have you looked at the new case studies where
they are trying the drug LDN (low dose naltrexone) on RA patients??

I have PMR but they say the LDN works on many different auto-immune
diseases. I think I am going to ask about it at my next Rheumy appt.

Take Care,

Hello 2young.  I take LDN and have been on a 4.5mg dose since Sept. '08.  I have found it to work very well for my fibromyalgia but so far, have not noticed much in the way of the RA.  I have noticed no side effects so far except feeling blue when I miss a dose.

As far as the "I could eat a horse" feeling on the pred... break out the BBQ sauce!  I don't go after the sweets as much as I go protein crazy!  I need meat, meat and more meat when on prednisone which I'm sure is just wonderful for my cholesterol levels.  I try to fight it and eat carrots or something but usually just go after peanut butter except for lately and I'm sure you all know why.

Bob
what dose of predisone makes you feel so hungry?  .... I have script for predisone, I am thinking about trying it. It is a longer than a burst pack....this one I will take for 15 days

The higher the dose the less control you have over your appetite. That is of course no control what so ever. I used to try and only eat cold foods. At first when I was on pain pills and high dose pred I would burn my mouth eating hot food. For the moment I have been off of prednisone for a month. But I was on it every day for fourteen months. I really am not hungry it seems. It is such a change I keep thinking I need to eat something for my tummy. You know NSAID'S on an empty tummy is not good.40mg daily, down from 100mg daily in august.  Now that's high dose prednisone!

Bob
Bob you are truely special. So sorry you had to experience such a high dose of prednisone. I can not even imagine. The highest I had ever done was  sixty mg taper. That to me was next to unbearable mentally and physically. Mmmmmmm......BBQ sauce!!

How awesome that you are trying the LDN, so that's about 5 and a half months huh??
It seems from what I read, the longer you are on it the more things "straighten out" and
work right in your body. I hope it works for you, for us all. Keep us posted. It makes
sense to me that it would help the Fibro first, did LDN help you sleep better? From what I understand poor sleep lowers the immune and brings on fibro. We live in an amazing time, I am crossing my fingers and praying for LDN.
What is LDN? I guess I slept that day in class. I have not ever heard of this one.yes what is it?  i missed this too.  is a pain reliever or work like steriod or a diet pill???
