Fibro question | Arthritis Information

I know several people here also have fibromyalgia and I have a question for you all.  I've been reading up on it thinking that maybe a lot of what is happening with me as of late may be fibro.  I was wondering about the "trigger points" in particular.  Am I correct in assuming that these are points that would cause serious pain with the slightest touch in patients that have fibro?  Because all of the areas that are indicated as trigger points hurt, but it feels SOOO good to massage those areas.  In fact, the harder they are massaged the better it feels.

I've never known my JRA to cause muscle weakness and pain like this but then again I've never gone "untreated" this long before.  For the last six months all I've had, as many know already, is high dose prednisone.  Though I'm now down to 40mg daily and also getting ready for my second remicade infusion I feel lousy and can't help but wonder if RA is totally to blame.  I've also seen a neurologist who said that the nerve conduction study and emg was normal and indicated no muscular disease or even better, no prednisone induced myopathy yet.

Thanks
Bob

Hi Bob,
Go to www.fmaware.org and you will find good info on fibro.

I have it and yes, while it hurts very much to have the spots touched after about 1 minute of tremendous pain it starts to subside somewhile with massage.
Also, symptoms I have are, fatigue, neuropathy in my feet(nerve endings) and achiness all over.  I am currently on 100 mg of lyrica and it helps with the symptoms somewhat.
Good luck in your quest to figure it out.

One other thing, hopefull your RD will be willing to explore the possibility of fibro in addition to the RA, which is what my RD did. (THANK GOODNESS)

I've wondered.   I have muscle pain that REALLY hurts.  I have every symptom on the list... every one.

my RD feels I'm DX'd.....   probably won't address anything like this.......

For me the pred doesn't do anything for the fibro at all except maybe take a little of the edge off the pain at high doses. Everybody is different, for me pressure points hurt when you press on them but massage wil help ease the pain. That is just my experience.

Nothing hurts to press on it at all.  The massage helps a ton.  Does just plain old RA cause problems like this with muscle aches?  To describe this in the best way I know how, it feels like fatigue in the joints and the tissue around the joints.  Basically like I've been working out for a week non stop and everything is worn out to the point that it makes me shake when I try and exert any force with the muscles.  This is getting a little worrying for me but I was assured that is was nothing terribly serious by a neurologist.  He says that I have pretty bad sleep apnea and that it could possibly be the cause of these problems.

i have PSA and fibro, the kenalog shots that I get (a form of steroid every 12 weeks) help me with both conditions.  I burn from my toes up and then my finger tips up.  This is one of the ways my Rheumy diagnosed this.
the other thing that helps, Norflex. It is a more mild muscle relaxer.  I take it as needed and that is usually once a week on a good week.  I can function with it during the day or the next day if I took it at night.  I cannot function with Flexiril.
hope this helps.

Bob- Dr. Wannabe wants to say that because RA also breaks down tendons and ligaments which support the muscles it could very well be that muscle pain can be RA related.  Add to it that you worked out for a week straight. Maybe you over did it a little. Can you go to PT?
