OT -- Just captured a feral kitten.... | Arthritis Information

about 8-10 weeks old, and feel really, really guilty.  the poor thing wants to be with her family. she cried and cried now is under the bed and won't come out.

they are just too much for me to try to keep feeding group growing out of control. the mom has been back there in the woods four years now that I know about.  she is hard to capture very wild.  I caught a raccoon in the trap but not her.  her litters are usually older and wild before she brings them around. but I decided I would capture them have them spayed or neutered, then release them back out there if they are too wild. I don't know what I have gotten myself into.  too much time on my hands, I guess.
Obviously Mom is a Catholic cat Wow!  You be careful, Shelly!  Cat bites, to say the least, are very infectious!!! Poor little one!  My dh rescued one last summer.   He was so tiny and skinny he could fit thru the links in a chain link fence at a dead run!  He is sitting here helping me type now.  Lucky fella!

JR,
Not sure what a Catholic cat means but she's something.  I heard her and the male cat out there screaming so won't be long before there is another litter. I just feel I have to do something.  Here goes.
waddie,
Well this one isn't skinny. I put food out everyday. so they eat and are healthy in appearance. but, the bite thing happened to me with one of her other kittens in 2005. I had cat scratch fever, my white count was off the charts and a blood clot at the same time. the docs don't know if the cat bacteria caused it.
I am trying not to bother her, just waiting for her to feel safe around me. so hope there are no scratches or bites this time.
Thanks.

Yes, me too because it landed me in the hospital last time. but I was frantically lookong for a pan for the litter.  I found one in the garage and didn't have any old litter so I used potting soil for now my miracle grow.  didn't want to do that but it's an emergency.:)  Anyways, put down the food and water for her but she didn't touch the food so put down some milk for her and she drank that.  I just slid the food and milk tray next to the bed where she is hiding so she could get to it when she wants.
I still don't know what I have gotten myself into.  We will both sleep on it and see how it goes.
I think my experience will be a lot like your with her being very cautious and flipping out on me sometimes. It is amazing how they can become so wild so young.
Thanks. take it easy.

JR,
I'm just a southern Baptist girl and I thought you meant something like that, then I thought well isn't that true for the Jewish too so maybe she means something else but yes -- no birth control for this kitty and she is not interested in birth control any time soon.
We caught a feral kitten once and she became a wonderful family pet. BUT, Peapod was full of worms and gave the dog and other cat, ear mites. She spent a week under the couch with diarrhea and was finally tamed because of the other animals we already had, and a two year old who wouldn't give up on "my kitten".

I commend you for wanting to catch them and fix them, but until you catch the mother that's going to be a never ending story. Your feeding them is what's keeping them reproducing and in your backyard. The guy across the highway would open a 50lb bag of food under his trailer, there were at least 30 cats over there when he died.

They could put cats in heat and cat sex in a horror movie, it's frightening to see your loving pet become so crazed. Zombie cats.

Catholic Cat, good one.awww.. what a good person you are to give a little feral a home..

My husband had a feral cat once.. he was the most affectionate, HUGE, cat you could imagine!  When he stretched up my DH's leg he reached the top of his leg............. foot to foot stretched out to a man's leg 6'2" tall!!  big cat

Anyway.. don't give her milk.... it'll give her diarrhea.. if she's 8-10 weeks old she's not nursing.. if you want to put the littlest bit of milk on her food, you can but not much..

good luck w/ your little friend......

Actually the kitten will probably respond to the "dirt" quicker than kitty litter. She is wild and is used to digging her business in fresh dirt. Good luck, I hope she tames enough for you to keep her around and safe.
