Is this an RA related thing?? | Arthritis Information

I have decided to start going to the gym just to walk and try to run on the treadmill a bit.

My knees don't let me jog for very long but I try anyway.

Well today the top of my left foot started hurting. It actually hurts to touch it-like a bruise.  It is close to where the ankle is and now that I am sitting here flexing it, it does hurt when I do that. But it isn't at the joint if that makes any sense.  It is just weird to me.
So I guess I am not really sure what my question is anymore! haha
Could it be a stress fracture??

oh yeah and has anyone else ever had their toes go numb on an eliptical???

numb toes and feet are common on an elliptical....try picking up the feet off the pedel every now and then...also pedalling backwards will also change the pressure on the feet.  Make sure your shoes aren't too tight.  The numbess happens because the feet are in a stationary position for awhile
I don't know about the foot..sorry but will suggest that you get comfortable walking on the treadmill before trying to run.  Believe me you can get a good walking workout by playing around with both the speed and incline
Haven't gone numb on an elliptical, but it happens to me a lot biking when I clip in to my pedals. I think it is like Buckeye suggests, but can't readjust when clipped in!

Not sure on the foot... I have the same thing where it feels like a bruise. But I'm clutsy and forgetful, so mine might be a bruise. Hope it feels better soon and way to go for working out!
ColoMo I am also very clutsy and if it didn't start hurting while I was jogging then I might have thought it hit it. It still hurts today.  I can't go to the gym today because I have too much going on after school so I will give it a rest and see what happens.

Buckeye-I am in pretty good shape so running isn't really a problem. It just hurts my knees if I go for too long. I actually figured out a good plan yesterday...I sprint for a 1/4 mile and then slow down for the next 1/4 and put the incline up pretty high.
I will tell you what though, I have been so tired at school the past couple days. I can barely keep my eyes open sometimes.

Oh and as for the eliptical I think it is so funny that your foot could go numb while working out.

I am hoping to build up enough strength to run a 5k they have every year at my school. All my friends do it and  I never have so I am really hoping to be able to do it this year! :)

My feet used to get tingly on the elliptical but not since I put arch supports in my sneakers.

Also, On occasion the bony top of my left foot (at the highest point)would hurt, but that has gone away with the arch supports also. I tend to think I have a bone spur there.I used to run but had to stop because I was getting bruise like pain on the top of my feet (more to the center though) with every impact.  They dx something ridiculous--RSD--but had me on Vioxx.  This was 10 years ago.  I think it was RA.  I went back and looked at my medical records and the early dx was "inflammatory arthritis' but I bet when they saw RF negative they dismissed it, because it wasn't visibly swollen with the NSAIDs.  CAH1418 - way to go on the race! In Dec I began planning to do my first triathlon when this RA-thing hit a couple days later. I'm starting to think about a half-tri as the RA gets under control. I have trouble with running too - reconstructed ACL last year and my ankles still swell and hurt at times. Anyways, I think it's great that you have a goal to work towards and have friends to support you!
I used to run but had to stop because I was getting bruise like pain on the top of my feet (more to the center though) with every impact.
Weird! That is exactly what is happening to me when I run. Every time I step that it hurts like a bruise. Since it is in such an odd spot I didn't think it was related, but you made me think otherwise.  Mine isn't swollen though.
It is just really annoying because I am going to do this race even if it is hurting, but I really wish it would stop. :(

Wow a triathlon! That is impressive! If you do the half we can support each other! :)

I wish my friends supported me! They know I have RA but I know the one guy will beat me and brag about it forever instead of congratulating me for trying. They are so competitive I can't stand it.  If I don't do it, the only reason would be him only because I don't want to hear about it.
