I have a NODULE | Arthritis Information

Share

I've had no advances to my disease since I started on enbrel in March 08.....  I was actually doing well..    but I had to stop enbrel for six weeks while I battled a sinus, ear and bronchial infection..

did pretty well til today.

I am so disappointed.....

I have a nodule just below my elbow (on my good elbow!!!)   It is not tender to the touch..

according to about.com:

Nodules usually occur in chronic active cases of rheumatoid arthritis, and are commonly associated with more joint deformity and serious extra-articular manifestations including lungs, eyes, and blood vessels.

I had one once before.. when I was in college and working three jobs and planning my wedding....  I had to stop the waitressing job because my ortho said it was a nodule.. meant disease activity.. take more aspirin .. and rest more........ it was on my shin.....

this is very disappointing to me.

I had a feeling things weren't going as well w/ the enbrel as before .. I had asked for another DMARD to boost it........

*sigh*

bummer bummer bummer
[QUOTE=babs10]I've had no advances to my disease since I started on enbrel in March 08.....  I was actually doing well..    but I had to stop enbrel for six weeks while I battled a sinus, ear and bronchial infection.. nope..he wouldn't give it to me..  he said not til a trial aside from the one in the netherlands is completed...  I volunteered to be in it! ohhh...so sorry. I am glad it does not hurt...that would just be insult to injury. Will nodules go away? or are you just stuck with it?

Tink
Babs sorry to hear about your nodule. I'm only on sulpha, soon to be mtx and have nodules under my shoulder blades and one trying its damnedest to grow on my middle finger. Mine dont hurt unless they are growing (then they are red and hot).

Did the one on your shin go away? I thought once you got them they were there to stay.
Gee- sorry to hear that Babs! I had read that piece you posted somewhere as well. I don't know too much about them though. I thought I had one during onset but it ended up being an old forgotten scar that changed appearance when the area it was on was all swelled up.
Hope it goes away soon (do they go away?) Are you feeling like you have more disease activity?
Babs - I developed a double nodule on my left forearm near the elbow years ago and kept showing it to the doctors, and none of them copped a clue about RA.  The DERMATOLOGIST I am now seeing ordered an x-ray.  It isn't a RA nodule - so yours might not be one, so keep some hope alive.it wasn't one, Cathy??  what was it.?

It's red... it's a hard lump ... no pain though... just below the elbow on the forearm...

I found a pic and it looked just like it......

the one on my shin (this occured in 1978) is still there but alot smaller and flatter than it was but I can still find it easily... it was on my left shin .. the leg that was always on my better side.. just like this.. the right side hurts.. this side got the nodule..

I cannot remember LOL - the xray said it was normal, absolutely normal.  Bizarre, as these two lumps are rather large.  You would think they would have at least mentioned some sort of boney overgrowth.  Mine are hard too and no pain, but they never turned red - durn, sorry, sounds like you might have an RA one, especially if you found a picture.  Long sleeves from now on!  I was just amazed that the rheumy never xrayed it.  It was peace of mind for me when it came out normal, and in our RA world, any good part is a real boost.  Because its when you find experience new RA symptoms like your nodules, it really does get you down mentally.  How long till you next rheumy appt?

I should start a thread of left/right side.  I am right-handed, but have had multiple injuries and falls, all on my right side, and my RA hasn't been on equal on both sides - my dominant right side where the injuries occurred are my weakest spot for RA developments.

You hang in there, big hugs.  Cathy

Next appointment isn't for 7 weeks...  If it's still there.. then he will see it.. if it's gone... I won't miss it  ;)
I have felt like absolute crap since the fourth missed enbrel dose...

My dominant side..and the side where pain and issues are just a little higher and worse is my right....    good idea for a thread!!

I am hanging  ;)  and big hugs back at ya!
I have a nodule on my left wrist and when my arthritis is acting up---BOY does it get big and hurt! I am just happy that I'm right handed! Nodules suck and are ugly and painful. Good luck to you.MT RA is finally starting to get under control from being on enbrel for 7 months, plus max of MTX, an anti-inflamatory, predinose and palq.  Crazy, isn't it?  While it was out of control I started to get small nodules everywhere and it freaked me out.  They are all going away now.I am sorry to hear of that, Babs. I hope you can get back to how you were before you had to go off enbrel.wysone!  I think I've had one on my left wrist.. I kept pretending it wasn't there.. but it is.. and now this one is just like it  :(
I hope the enbrel kicks in soon!!
Kick in Enbrel!   thanks joonieMy nodules dissipated while on ENbrel.....but I am forming new ones. Been too busy with the gbaby to have it all checked out so when things calm again I am going to have to have that checked.

THe nodules are quite painful, I feel for ya I really do. THe weather doesn't help either if you are in a cold climate...the pressure change is the killer....it is said that when the pressure changes to low is when you have the most trouble, causes swelling I guess.
