ANKLE SWELLING | Arthritis Information

I think I've been on most of the NSAIDS at one time or another. Currently on 15 mg Mobic daily + Aciphex. Problem is ankle swelling which my rheumatologist has been concerned about. Switched NSAIDS over time, but they all seem to cause the swelling.

Suggestions? Perhaps there's an NSAID out there that won't make my ankles look like one of those groomed Poodles in the show ring? Been on Ketoprofen, Vioxx, Celebrex, Relafen, Lodine, Betamax, and probably a few I've forgotten.

Thanks.

Lee123438701.0205208333What is your diagnosis?
Perhaps you need something a bit stronger, but can't help you unless you tell us what is wrong.

Betamax?  Try VHS.  ;)

Lee; what DMARDS are you on?

I too had problems with swelling in my feet after being taken off of Bextra

To answer your question, Lovie, 12.5 mg MTX for almost 12 years. With the except of this past year when I had a huge flare up after a strep infection, it's always worked for me.

And in case anyone's wondering if it's cardiac-related, it isn't. Went to cardiologist and had the whole gamut of tests. Figured it was worth the trouble and cost since most in my family died of cardiac arrest without earlier symptoms. I came out smelling like a rose. [Do you suppose all those NSAIDS over the years kept the plaque out of my heart?] I do have high blood pressure, under control with new drug Benicar [great stuff!] and am also hypothyroid.

I was diagnosed with PsA [psoriatic arthritis] and CPPD about 12 or more years ago. Never had the skin problem with the PsA. Just the joint erosion.

So, any ideas about what I can do to stop my ankles looking like a show ring poodle's? Thanks.

I too had problems with swelling in my feet after being taken off of Bextra.  Mobic was the worst for me and after switching to Feldene I have not had any swelling.  Maybe they could keep trying to find the right one for you, I know it is a miserable feeling.

Interesting, I had swelling in my ankles like crazy and NEVER once connected it with the fact that I had quit Bextra.  I quit because I was on samples and really liked the stuff, but then my insurance co. would not cover it.  How are you sure that it was the Bextra?  Just wondering.

If I'm not mistaken, Butterfly, I think STAYLOR875 said she was on Mobic when the swelling occurred.
