Eye problems | Arthritis Information

Hi everyone,

I am new and was diagnosed with RA within the last year.  I have been on a number of NSAIDS that work for a while then suddenly stop.  On my next visit which is 3/20, my rheumatologist is going to talk to me about moving on to the next set of meds.

I have a question that I hope someone can help me with.  Over the last week and a half, I have woke up in the mornings with swollen eyes.  Not only the lids, etc but the whites of my eyes.  You can see the swelling when looking close up in a mirror and I can feel it with my eyelids.  By about mid day, the swelling has gone down.

I do not have allergies or sinus issues.  My eyes don't itch or water.  They aren't red either...maybe looking slightly bloodshot.  Has anyone had this problem?  I'm just wondering if it has anything to do with my RA?
It can be related to inflammatory arthritis.  It could be like reactive arthritis, or sjorgens, or "Extra-articular" RA?Sounds like blepheritis. I think that is spelled correctly....

I have a ton of eye issues due to the RA. Talk to your eye dr. I would recommend an opthamolgist (sp?).Hi Shay -

I agree about the opthamologist - and you might check out www.roadback.org for an different theory on how we should treat this disease.

Hugs,

Pip

Hi, Shay, welcome to the forum.  I've had all sorts of problems with my eyes, almost certainly RA related, according to my opthamologist and my rheumatologist.  They seem smaller somehow, the lids heavy, eyes sunken, but above all other suggestions I'd advise you to see an opthamologist, pronto.  Eye problems need to be diagnosed and treated sooner than later.  Let us know what you learn, ok?

Hey Shay!!  Sorry to hear about your eye issues.. I have them too.. but not the swelling you speak of...
Snow!  I have all that above... like you though..... I can pretty much take anything.. pain wise or any of the rest of it.. but when it starts altering my appearance.. I draw the line
