The article had a LONG URL so couldn't get it all!!!
I'm going to post more on the source of this when I have time.Still need to get this info.http://www.newsmax.com/health/alcohol_cancer_women/2009/02/25/185406.html

Also, moderate drinkers actually had a lower risk of thyroid cancer, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and renal cell cancer.

I guess that wasn't important enough to make the headline Thanks Lin.  Oxford study.  I personally know l woman who had cancer of the palette, 2 who have had cancer of the tongue and 2 who have had cancer of the esophagus from heavy alcohol consumption.  Does happen.Oral/throat/esophageal cancer warnings regarding alcohol and smoking have been around for a long time.  There have been studies for years warning about the dangers.

There are so many studies and they seem to conflict with one another.  All one can do is make an intelligent decision and proceed.  Do you not drink alcohol at all, only in moderation (define moderation) or just say that because there's no definitive study then I'll keep guzzling away.  I think I lean towards moderation and moderation to me is probably 1-2 drinks a week.  Lindy
Yes, there are conflicting studies.  I guess everyone makes their own decision.

A cousin died of cancer of the gum and she neither drank nor smoked but was in the sun alot playing tennis.  Never know.
I'm going to keep drinking an occasional beer or two.  Cancer is uncommon in my family, but heart disease isn't.  If we listened to every warning about possible health risks, we would all starve to death. What ever happened to common sense?  A drink or two on special occasions or once a week seems reasonable and seems to fit most studies.
If we listened to every warning about possible health risks, we would all starve to death.
Or be raving hypochondriacs.

IIRC, it was Voltaire who said, “Common sense is not so common.”
I'm with you, Jas.......... anything in moderation....... take the middle road..   don't be an extremist!!

a couple of drinks here and there.......  is enjoyment... not overindulgence....
I am flat-out doomed.

Damn it.......
I am flat-out doomed.

lolol...me too!

You know, if we took heed of every warning ever made public about what we could not eat or drink, we would not be alive anyhow.  How many people in nasty polluted cities do you see wearing strong filtering masks? Just breathing polluted air is contributing to our deaths, slowly but surely.

Quality of life is important to me, much more so than quantity.  So my few glasses of vino 4 or 5 days a week will continue.  Well, unless I need MTX they will.

Not meaning to change subject here but I have been contemplating and trying out different chocolate recipes for our Easter clients. I have arrived back at an old favourite, ' Lava Rocks' which are a biscuit made from good quality chocolate mixed with a few other things, chilled then rolled in confectioners sugar and baked. They turn out all cracked  precisely like lava rocks with the sugar looking like an encrustation and they taste totally gorgeous. Also have a great fudge, some pretty and tasty choc eggs organised. Its a busy time ahead!

ETA: Toothy for toothless.  That bunny is playing with me. I would love to have one more drink, but cannot.  I just had 18 years in February, but my little alcoholic monkey still wakes up and whispers in my ear - its okay, have a drink.  Thank God I stopped, as I could not imagine trying to copy with RA and being a drunk at the same time.  And I always knew I drank to kill the pain as I can still remember that first real drink (not sips from Mom and Dad when I got older) - it melted my bones and felt so good.  Tried for years to recapture that first drink, and never did.

Great thread Jan - KISS :)  Cathy
