Hello everyone!!
Sorry I havent been on for such a long time--not sure if the same people are even here. Anyways I was hoping to hear from anyone that is using fentanyl patches, mobic and a new drug called Lyrica ( for pain) I know what mobic is all about but the other 2 meds are new for me. I use to take vicodin for pain or tylenol with codeine but they stopped working on my pain. I am getting a little depressed about being in so much pain. I hate that I have to take such strong drugs. Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences on these 2 I am now taking. I have JRA and fibromyalgia and I am 35.   Also my doc is currently running some tests on me to see if I am going thru early menopause because of other drugs that I have been on can cause this to happen and I am showing symptons.
I'm going on and on now--sorry. I just feel like @#$%% and I know you guys will understand. My husband is great but sometimes even he gets burnt out when he has to do EVERYTHING because I am just a big nothing on the couch unable to move.
Any responses about these meds would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Marcy

Hey Marcy~Welcome back.

I don't know anything about your medications....but I started going though menopause two years ago at 32. I'll be 35 in January. I'd be interested in talking to you about that. It's a problem that few our age have. I've had RA for 12 years and have been on numerous DMARDS since I was dignosised. My doctors aren't sure whether the medication or the RA it's self caused the early menopause....but there's no question that this is my problem.

Feel free to send me a PM if you'd like to discuss it. I'd welcome the opprotunity to discuss it with you. The only people I know this young going through this have had a historectomy (Surely spelled wrong) due to other health complications. That's not exactly the same.

Hope to see you back more often.

Hey Lovie,
Thanks for your response. I tried to PM you but it said that your box was full and could not take anymore messages.
Anyways my rheumy told me that going into early menopause is actually common for people that have auto immune diseases. Because they are compromised all our life--this can just happen. The other reason is being on certain meds--even if you have gone off of them and been off for years--it can still happen. I was on methotrexate a couple of times over the last ten years and thats why this might be happening. Thats one of the meds that can do that. Look back in your history of meds and discuss it with your doc.
Thanks for the response!

WCB Marcy, I too have been gone for months... I hope to be more active in the next few weeks.

Mike

Sorry about my mailbox Marcy....I'm bad about that. Try again another time....I'll clean it out.

I have been on MTX a little over three years now. It happened shortly after I started it....chances are it's related. I've had all the children I need (Not want; but need) so it's not a bad situation for me....but I so worry about younger girls who still hope to start a family.

Mike it's so good to see you!! We really miss you.

Thanks Lovie!

I too have all the children I need. I don't mind so much if I do go thru menopause early, but yes I do worry about the younger girls. I hope their docs tell them what can happen by taking some of these meds.
I am glad I had my boys early in life. I am 35 and some people I know that age are just starting their families now.

Anyways I saw my doc today and she said from my bloodwork it looks like its starting but it will take about another year or two to actually be in it full bloom.   Sure as hell takes a long time to change!!!!

Reminds me of that ALL In The Family episode when Archie gets mad and annoyed with Edith as she is going thru the change and he tells her to go into the kitchen and CHANGE ALREADY!!!!!   too funny
If only it could be that fast and easy.

Marcy

Lyrica is a new drug designed to stop the nerve message of the pain from reaching your brain, thus you do not feel the pain. It is extremely expensive unless you have good prescription insurance.

It will be interesting to learn how it works for you.

Just reading this now,...and have had similar problem. I was in a bad car accident Dec 2003,...was put on fentanyl patches for chronic pain relief starting at 100 in hospital and now at 75 maintenance. I had my period the day of the accident and none since. I was 42 then (now 44) also have had mod OA and mild RA, and mild hashimotos hypo6thyriodism...but had the latter three for many years with no reproductive effects. Also had first child at 36, and nursed him 4 yrs,...but normal cycles after that. It was like a switch turned off after the accident, and starting narcotics....I almost want to deal with the pain,...wean off, and see if I'm normal again after.

Trish

PS I know it's been awhile, hope you are still there, and well.
