swollen hand | Arthritis Information

Today my VERY sore hand is swollen pretty bad. In fact if you press it, the indentation remains. (pitting) Gross. So have mercy on my bad typing today, my left hand feels like a club!!!

The good news is that a new internist opened a clinic just 5 miles away and I have an appt. with him for Monday, YAY! I called and gave my aweful Rheumy the boot.

One of the test results I got back today was for the arturocentisis??(they sucked the fluid out of my swollen knee in January) in 30 cc's of fluid there were 9200 white blood cells. I guess that's pretty high for inflammation. But I'm wondering if abnormally high wbc's can also mean infection. After looking at all the mycoplasma and pneumoniae info, I am hoping the anti-biotic run could help me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. MY PMR seems to move around so rapidly. ie: made muffins yesterday, sore index finger today etc. etc. And then the soreness stays from weeks to months.

weird.

I am glad you are seeing someone new.  I know when I am on antibotics I seem to feel better.  I was diagnosed in April of 07.  The Dr thinks I had PMR for a couple of years till it got so bad I could not get out of bed.  By Oct I had to do something other then the prednsone so I started researching the anti inflamatory diet.  By the end of Oct I was off the pred.  and have been pred free since.  I still have stiffness and get very fatigued at time.  I seem to be getting a lot of infections lately and my Dr thinks it is the autoimune disease.  I have not started any antibotics for that, but am back to watching what I eat and taking the 2,000mg of Vit C.   Good luck with your new Dr.  GeriThe only thing that helped my very painful swollen hands was the Minocin.  In just a day or two the swelling was gone.  Of course they stayed swollen so long that it really affected them in terms of strength.I am new to this website  and only been diagnosed with  PMR since  Feb  2010   I now too have swollen and painful hands  and wonder  where its going  is it  going to end  or be the end of me being able to work?  also  does  anyone out there have extra swelling and fluid retention during the hot humid weather?  again this is new to me  I can say every day is a new adventure  but not in a fun way!
