Bleeding gums after Boniva IV anyone? | Arthritis Information

hi,

I havent been on here in so long, glad to see this site is still going.
Anyone having bleeding gums and strange gum sensation after getting thier Boniva injection?  I have been on it a long time and really notice that... but nobody believes me! Doh!  I KNOW this is what is going on, since my gums get better after the Boniva wears off.  I always get the 2% weird side effects of pretty much any medication, so I am sensitive.  It sucks.  I have had RA for over 13 years and also have Sjogrens and Fibro.  Am on Orencia, prednisone, Arava, etc... and have been on pretty much ALL other RA meds over time.
Anyway, just hoping someone else has experienced this.
thanks.

I don't know if the Boniva IV you are on is the same Boniva that people take for osteoporosis, but just wanted to say all the osteoporois drugs have a small chance of causing necrosis of the jaw so I would definitely tell your doc about it.

Pepper:  Yahoo or Google Boniva IV---you should be informed.  I scream when I hear someone is taking Fosamax.  Boniva is a lot like it.  At least be informed -- then YOU can make an informed decision.  Yeah, I know all about the jaw issues, osteonecrosis of the jaw.  I have done a lot of reading up on that. The bleeding gums are a sign of that and it can happen spontaneously... not just after dental work.  I just havent met anyone else who has had the bleeding gums after the med IV.  Since I tend to get the side effects that are more rare and under the "less than 2% of people experience" list, its hard to find others who also experience them.  I also had the worst reaction to Reclast... and not one other person in my doc's office had any reaction to it.  Ugh!  Also, Dentists seem to take this risk lightly... even though there have been cases of it occuring to people on RA treatment, not just the cancer treatment patients.  Docs and dentists need to take it more seriously!

And yes, this is the same Boniva as the Boniva pills, it is just an IV "push" dose given every 3 months for people who have stomach issues.  I get RA infusion treatments anyway, so they add that to it.

PS  I have talked to my RD and my dentist about this... but they dont take it too seriously.

*What I am asking here is if anyone else has had the bleeding gums as I have.  I already am well informed and do my research.  I just want to talk to someone else who has had the bleeding.  thanks
