Sweating all the time | Arthritis Information

Also wondering... if anyone else has a sweating problem too?  (I know, I am a mess.)  It started a year or so ago.  I sweat like crazy even right out of the shower... and when I go places or basically do anything!  Its mostly from my head and trunk.  NOT TYPICAL HYPERHYDROSIS... since my hands and feet arent bad at all.  I think it might be peri menapause but nobody has been able to figure it out.  I am going to see an endocrinologist to keep trying to get it figured out.  It is such a drag!  Its enough to have RA, Sjogrens and Fibro.. and then this on top of that.  Ugh. how old are you?

seriously sounds like peri menopause. I've had sweats and hot flashes for 15 years now, really bad at first, but they still show up.
that is what my gut is telling me!  I am 37 so the docs say, oh that is too young, but it can happen that young... esp. when a person has auto immune disease.  Razzafrazza!  I also used to have night sweats but then they mostly stopped and now its just day sweats!  So embarassing!!Pepper, you can have a blood test which will tell you if you are peri-menopause. I too have night sweats, 43 (had a hysterectomy in 2002, still have ovaries), blood test says I'm peri-meno. Its bad enough having night sweats, wouldnt be too happy if it happened during the day too. Hope you can get an answer one way or the other.  Pepper-

I'm 44 and had been experiencing the hot flash thing. Usually happens when I am talking to someone. One sec I am fine and then the next I'm sweating like a pig. I checked to see what age my mom was when she went through menopause as that is supposed to be a good indicator. Well, she was 44, too.

Are your periods screwy? I am uterus-less, so I can't tell from that.

-AngelinaYeah, I am supposed to get blood tests but I need to be off of my oral contraceptives for a month first - and I havent done that yet!

My periods are different... they are longer in duration.  I also start sweating like crazy when I talk to someone.  That is so embarassing.  Or during a dinner.  Or, just sitting here!  Also, when doing housework and right out of the shower.  Have to keep a fan on me then and its hard to get ready to go somewhere.

I did ask my birthmom about her status... she is about 52 and is just now going through it.  I also have heard of people having these symptoms and not having abnormal blood test results.  I plan to go to a good endocrinologist for that.

I also gain weight mainly in my mid section too... which is another indicator.  I have been on prednisone forever too... but did taper down some.  I really think this is hormonal.

I didn't have to go off BC for the test. They just said have it done during the week you don't take them. My numbers were not looking like menopause and I am 48. I've had my period since I was 10.....I yi yi!I too sweat all the time. I know what you mean about coming out of the shower and the fan. By the time I am done dressing, I feel like I need another shower. I know some meds also make you sweat. Like cymbalta which I take. I had a D&C on the 20th of Feb and have a post op appt on Friday and was planning on asking about the sweating and see what dr says. My period has been going on for 10 months! Awful cramps too.
I hope you can get it figured out. If you do, please let us know what you find out.
take care
Do you take prednisone by any chance?  It can do that to you.  I sweat like crazy too...and it has nothing to do with menopause with me because well...I'm a guy.    I'd look into the meds that you're taking but seeing an endocrinologist couldn't hurt.I started the sweats in my late 20s and they continued thru peri-menopause. Finally ceased at 35 when I was well into menopause.thanks everyone for your nice replies.
I am on prednisone and have been for 12 years or so... but I have tapered down quite a bit and didnt have the sweating when on more of it for most of those years.  I know another med I am on causes some sweating... and looked at the rest of the meds, but this came on so suddenly when I had been on the same meds and never had that.  Its weird.
Maybe I can get that BW done the week when off the BC pills instead of waiting a month...
I just have that gut feeling that its peri-menapause since I also have the weight gain only in the abdominal area around the same time the sweating started.
I have had my thyroid checked a few times too.
I sure want to figure this out.

I immediately thought of menopause and also Prednisone... both can cause sweating.

I'm glad to hear you will be telling this to your doc. Maybe it's an easy fix.

Hi Pepper..
sorry you're having this issue..  it's really upsetting isn't it?  I'm 51 but went into full blown menopause at age 44.... and all my symptoms have pretty much ended.
I have a few questions about it if you don't mind.
Do you take something for Sjogrens?  Salagen, which I take can cause profuse sweating....
Also.. when you feel the perspiring coming on while speaking ot someone... are you nervous?  In menopause, as weird as it is, you can have a "hot flash" when you're upset, nervous, etc... and situations can bring it on.
Hope this has been helpful.
I get this too during the day, very embarrassing, I am 45 and have had thetests for perimenopause, its not that, my GP says its the pred and oxycontin.  Good luck, Janie.

Another profuse sweater ,especially in the day time. I am 64 have been through menopause in my early 50's. Also started periods at 10 years old, also my 2 daughters were the same age as well! I had about 5 years between sweats coming back and these are being even more upsetting and  unless I have forgotten , are different.

I had these as part of my symptoms before being diagnosed with PMR and going on Pred 4 years ago. 3 months ago I went to a new Rheumy( ? diagnosis.. RA? Lupus? ) and was gived Plaquenil. No improvement yet and have just had more blood work done and will get results next week.

The SWEATS are causing  me alot of fatigue and embarrasement, sounds like a lot of us have similar feelings. Hope someone knows a remedy?

Hugs to all, Lyn

I have "hot flashes" all the time.  I am on Prednisone also but was having them way before I  started taking the pred.   It seems I woke up on my 49th birthday and started having hot flashes and that was 4 years ago.  It is so embarassing.  I always hated sweaty people and now I am one of them.     I keep a fan in my kitchen and one by my nightstand.  I'm going on vacation with friends in July and am wondering how I am going to handle this.thinking back.
when I first started w/ my rheumie, he would ask about sweats......  I had mild ones ...not like menopause.........  and at night.
I stopped them shortly after I started MTX?  IDK, maybe it is a symptom??
for clarification:
hot flashes during the day to me began at the back of my neck and I felt it creep upward through my hair and outward and down til I felt hot (on fire) and feeling the perspiration.

the ones for RA?:
were more like breaking a fever???

Does that make sense?
