OT - ear infection question | Arthritis Information

Hi all -

I've been down with an ear infection for the past day or so... never had one quite like this.  The ringing in my rt ear is LOUD... waiting for the augmentin to kick in, and for the ringing to stop.  Anyone else have really bad tinnitus during an acute ear infection?

This sucks...
Ask Bob! He has ringing in his ear too!
My husband had pressure, ringing and hearing loss- it ended up he had Lyme.
Oh- and I forgot to say- feel better soon! I know that ringing can drive you mad! I went to my ENT yesterday and he said it's VERY common to get the loud ringing when you have an ear infection.  It's something about the fluid build up and pressure equalization.  Mine however is not going to get any better as the ringing is from hearing loss in the left ear.  Some antibiotics can cause ringing in the ears too though.

Hope yours gets better quickly.  There really is nothing more miserable than not being able to hear well.  I hate that stuffed up feeling in the ears where you have to keep pinching your nose and popping your ears!

Hello?  Hello?

I can't hear you over all this ringing! I know lots of us are on NSAIDs, they can also cause tinnitus, especially aspirin. If Sudafed is keeping you awake, you can try Mucinex instead, it may work just as well as Sudafed as a decongestant. Feel better soon :) I have heard playing a radio softly while you try to sleep is helpful. It's that dang quiet that makes it so noticeable- I now that's when it bothered my husband most. There is some kind of drops at the drug store that I have seen to stop ringing. If I can remember the name I'll post again. Poor you, that must make you crazy.  But doesn't the infection hurt too?  I hope not, I've only had one ear infection that I can actually remember (most were when I was a little kid) and boy!  did it ever hurt.  Hope it clears up soon. Yea, it hurt like a ^&$#* until the augmentin started working!  It feels much better today.  The ringing is still there, though not as bad.  I've also been taking lots of ibuprofen these last couple days to deal with the pain, so I'm sure that's contributed to the ringing.  Definitely not the whole story, though, as it is really bad in the ear with the infection.

My husband just got back from a business trip, so I can relax tonight.  I love Friday - it's a Nintendo holiday in this house!  And God bless the pizza dude (and all his colleagues at the pizza place).Jas,
I hope the ringing goes away soon. I remember when I had an ear infection a couple of years ago and boy it does hurt! Now I know why when my kids were babies they would cr and cry, poor babies. Enjoy your pizza and I hope you sleep well tonight.
Doing much better today.  The ringing is almost gone, the pain has subsided, and my hearing seems back to normal.  There is still some gurgling in my ears, especially when I swallow.  The sinus congestion and headache hasn't completely resolved yet, but hopefully it will in the next few days.  I do have a lingering fear that the bacteria is not completely susceptible to Augmentin - they seem to be putting up a good fight.  Grrr.  But at least I'm feeling so much better than I was last Wednesday! Glad you are feeling a little better. Sometimes getting rid of an ear infection takes a little bit of time. Plenty of fluids and a heating pad or moist heat for the sinuses is helpful. I like to soak in a hot bath with a warm rag on my face.Great idea, Milly!  After we get back from dinner w/Dad tonight I'm going to lay down with the heating pad for a while.  I never think of using a heating pad for sinus/ear issues, even though I use it for other aches and pains! The hospital sent me home with a things to do list last year for a sinus infection. Heating pad and fluids were on the list.
