I got diagnosed with a kidney disease AND arthritis less than a year after being pregnant. Anyone else get diagnosed with arthritis fairly soon after pregnancy?Yep, 3 weeks after baby was born! Do you mind me asking how old you were and if you had any symptoms arthritis before getting pregnant or did it only show up afterwards?2 weeks after the birth of my son.  my 1st child was a girl.  felt marvelous until 2 weeks after his birth.  it took over 2 years to get diagnosed correctly.  my doctor said this is not uncommon especially if it is an oppisite sex baby.  does something to your hormones and he said usually not your 1st child.   i was 26 years old.   i had never had a pain in my life.  i am now 48 almost 49 and the pain has never left seems to intensify with time.   my poor son had to learn to walk early because i could not physically carry him.  10 months he walked everywhere.   i dropped him constantly as a new born from the pain in my shoulders i just let him slip to the floor.   my baby daughter was a huge help thank goodness i had her to help me.   welcome to Arhtritis Insight you have come to the right place!  God Bless You!2 years after the birth of my 2nd boy. no.. I was DX'd as a child.. then as a menopausal woman..

but..a bout Pregnancy..... it makes you feel great... a respit from the RA.. so after the birth.. you would feel like it's just getting you... when you probably had it before you got PG.....
Babs, we both got diagnosed with RA when we went into menopause.......I couldn't believe I had to deal with menopause, a severe onset of RA, and a blown disk at L5/S1.  RA can make you crazy and then add menopause, I felt like I was loco for months and months.

I didn't mean to hijack the thread but I haven't run into another woman who was diagnosed with both at the same time......aaargh.  Lindy
Yes, it was after the birth of my first son.  3 months to be exact.

Dx. RA 1996
Meds. Orenica, Fosamax, Prednisone, Folic Acid
I was dx'd at 46, perimenopausal. yep..  I was a bit insane myself, LinB... AND I had double herniated my L5S1 10 years prior..

Now... I want to be like LinB........ I want remission!!!!

ETA: Are you sero-negative, LinB?

sorry about hijacking......  LinB's inbox is full!
babs102009-03-15 13:24:22I was dx'd a year after our first DD was born, but my jaw had been bothering me for months. During the last month of the pregnancy I couldn't undo making a fist without having to use my other hand to peel the fingers back straight. Several years before one of my middle fingers had been bothering me, couldn't bend it and it was swollen and sore. I thought I'd hurt it during volleyball, in hindisght, it was probably the first sign of RA.I was dx at 39. My kids were teenagers. Now they are 16 and 21. It's 12:32 here in central IL and my son's golden 16th b-day. I am going to try to get up in the morning before he goes to school to wish him a happy day and give him a big hug.
Welcome to the sight and I wish you all better days ahead!
I struggled with escalating degrees of palindromic arthritis prior to giving birth. Was finally diagnosed with RA a few weeks after.

I have experienced intense RA symptoms about 6 weeks after the bith of both my boys.

The symptoms for my daughter came on after she finished breast feeding her 2nd child.  She didn't breast feed the 1st one and the doctor said it may have been brought out after breast feeding with the hormone changes.  I also have RA and mine started as my hormone changes around 40.  My daughter is currently pregnant again an of course no symptoms.

On the flip side of this question.

My wife got pregnant from arthritis!

In the early days of my diagnosis i would spend more time in bed resting, so my wife bought a tv for the bedroom and came and spent more time in there with me cuddling up.  one thing led to another and i now have a wonderful 11 year daughter.

Unfortunatly the TV broke, my wife divorced me and i still have arthritis......
I was dx when my 2nd son turned 1 1/2.  I am currently pregnant again and terrified for what's to come, in more ways than one. I was dx after my son was born, he was less than a year old when I was dx. No probs with first pregnancy (girl).

I'm now 39. Dx last year.Just to add my story...I got RA DURING my pregnancy, started in my eighth month, not diagnosed until over a year later, I was 35.
