Controlling flare-ups that dont go away... | Arthritis Information

I was put on Humira 2 months ago, I have been on methotrexate since last September and I am going this round with a flare-up in my left ankle and my right knee thats leaving me in misery.

My doctor gave me prednisone to take to control short term flare-ups (I take it for 6 days) at my last appointment but these two spots will NOT got away. The predisone helped lessen it for about 2 days but as soon as I started to taper off the prednisone it was back.

What else can you do for a really bad flare in just a couple of spots? My knee is so swollen it feels "fat" and tight when I walk. Can they do cortisone shots or steroid shots for something like this? Do they work?

I am 27 and am just really bummed I am dealing with this in my life. :(

My doctor made me go on 10 mgs of prednisone until I feel like I can taper. So far it's been weeks. I keep having a few really good days and then I feel like crap and can't taper.... Sorry I'm no help. Abby - sorry you are dealing with this, you just have to keep going back to your doctor and trying different things until something works for awhile.  Good luck.  Ok, let me just tell you what my Mother-in-law says.  She has osteo, not rheumatoid so I don't know if this would apply but....she rubs castor oil on her sore joints.  It was the last hope before knee replacement, and according to her, her pain has been reduced to a very tolerable level and is no longer considering the surgery.  I haven't tried it, but it might be worth a shot .  If you give it a go, let me know how it works, k?I tried it- no go castor oil helps.  it is not a cure all but it helps.  i coat my feet in it and my back.  cover up with socks and shirts because it is greasy but it is worth it.Abby, you probably should call your RD and get an appt.  Someone needs to look at that knee.  If you're flaring your RD may increase your MXT.  A minor increase might work in combo with the Humira to get you to clinical remission.  Give your dr. a call.  LindyI would definetaly ask about the injections. I get them and yes they work.
Best Wishes,
Lisa
