Depression or Anxiety brought on by meds? | Arthritis Information

 

Anyone get diagnosed with depression or anxiety while on RA meds? My family doc said that MTX can mess with your serotonin and can bring on depression.

I can't remember - did you say you were taking plaquenil too?  Plaquenil can cause emotional issues, though it's not common. I think just getting adjusted to knowing you have a disease like this causes anxiety and depression. not caused by but in addition to.. I am bipolar and its hell to deal with.. am I clinically depressed or just miserable from pain.. ??who cares I'll just go eat another peanut butter cup. Same here; at the worst of this I experienced a week or more of morbid depression followed by several months of less incapacitating, but still daily depression. I finally saw my PCP, was diagnosed, referred to a therapist and started on antidepressants.

I can only hope that if depression ever begins to rule my life, I recognize the signs and get help soonest rather than waiting out of sheer apathy.

My GP thinks I might have Generalized Anxiety disorder.  I've also been experiencing chronic insomnia which started about two months after starting my Enbrel.  I'm not sure which came first.  I'm hoping the insomnia is causing the anxiety.  I actually at first thought the insomnia might have been due to depression but GP says symptoms are GAD.  I've been rx'd some Ambien.  I really hope it helps because I can't stand much more of the lack of sleep, or the racing thoughts.


yes. mtx especially and enbrel as well....enbrel helped but caused me to have several emotional outbursts...killed a relationship for certain...at least it ghelped destroy it. that is what i think anyway.
