Trigger finger | Arthritis Information

Last November I had an episode of swelling and stiffness in my left hand. When the swelling resolved I was left with a thumb that was was hyper-extended, albeit it not necessarily painful. I have had a couple of cortizone injections without too much improvement and my RD has tentatively mentioned surgical release which I met with more than a modicum of resistance.

However...I awoke this am with not one, but two fingers flexed into the palm of my hands: the ring finger on the left and the middle finger on my right. DAMNATION!

Has anyone experience this type of progression with trigger fingers and what was the penultimate and then the ultimate solution?

Thanks in advance, Shug

Idk, Shug, I had it happen to my left finger.  It would snap shut, though I could snap it open with my right hand.  Suddenly, it resolved on its own.  Weird.  Damnation is right!  It just keeps piling on, huh?

I hope you fingers pay attention and do the right thing!  (And I hope someone smarter that me has an answer for you!)
I had a ring do that once. It was right before I was to leave for a conference and I put my jewelry on the night before...I woke up in the middle of the night with my hand swollen and in severe pain.

The ring was stuck on my finger so badly that Tim had to cut the ring off with some kind of pliers...this was in the middle of the night mind you, I was screeming in pain and I am certain he was cursing me under his breath!!!!! lol got the ring off....swelling went down, ended up throwing the ring away I think.

About trigger fingers, I had one for years. When it was finally dx by my hand surgeon he repaired the problem but removing the bad tendon and fixating the finger into a normal looking stance. I was never really able to use that finger so it was a true blessing to not have the pain.

Life goes on, lived through that one too.I saw my RD (a previously scheduled appointment), she injected the offending tendons, sent me back to the hand therapist, and told me that if the 'problem' did not resolve, next up would be a referral to a hand surgeon.

I have postponed a distal ulnar resection for just about two years, wonder how long I can remain functional with these inert fingers and thumb? Hmmm...

my mom has that, if I didn't see it myself I wouldn't have believed it.  She went to bed "normal", came down in the morning (3 days in a row) with 2 fingers totally locked down into the palm of her hand.  She massages and warms them and at some point in the afternoon the pop back out, only to happen again at night.  She has an upcoming appt. with an orthopedic dr.I have a trigger finger for years that was very painful when I had to snap it back. On my very first injection of Enbrel, it was completely gone. I'm talking less than 30 min after the enbrel.

Now about 3 years later I am starting to have it "catch" again. So far it hasn't locked into place.

I guess anything you can do to alleviate the inflammation of the tendon would be helpful. Ice works better than heat, at least in my case.I had it and since I couldn't do cortisone injection I had to go straight to surgery. yes, it was painful and such a bother.
