Can Prednisone mess with blood pressure? | Arthritis Information

I am feeling kind of weird like I did when I had no blood pressure (or at least the last time my kidney doctor tried to kill me with blood pressure medicine changes!)...

Can prednisone affect blood pressure medicine or your blood pressure in general?
yes... it sure can.  It usually raises it.
Also, I know that methyl prednisone can make your heart race... for some of us anyway... I tried it years ago and felt like I was going to have a heart attack so I went on the regular predisone and it was a huge difference.  Its a horrible med and a good med... the love/hate drug.
I feel werid when my BP is too high as well, so get in and have someone check it...even your primary care doc can help with that.
Your Rheumy should be checking BP every visit too...

Have just seen your entry of a few months ago and wonder if you still look at this site?  I was particularly interested in your comment as to you kidney doctor giving you a blood pressure tablet "that nearly killed you".  I had my BP medication changed by a kidney consultant a couple of years ago and within days became very ill indeed eventually being diagnosed with Giant Cell Arteritis.  Intriguingly, the Ace Inhibitor BP tablets relax the arteries and blood vessels, and Gian Cell Arteritis is in the arteries and blood vessels!  I'm interested to know if it was an Ace Inhibitor that made you ill also; also what type of kidney problem do you have?

Do hope you're better now.
