What the hell is wrong with me? | Arthritis Information

Ok  probably NONE of this is related, but I'll give you the sequence of events.

Tuesday evening I took 10 mg of valium in prep for a major tooth rebuilding.
I then took another 10 mg Wednesday morning just before the procedure.

All that day I was dizzy and light headed and couldnt walk straight.

Its SATURDAY and I still cant walk straight, I'm nauseated, but cant throw up,  I'm bizzarrely dizzy, almost like being drunk, but  worse. I am seeing weird things especially when I shut my eyes..

I can't see straight, everything is blurry and its almost like I cant make myself look in the direction I want to. WHen I lie flat  it feels like my eyes are trembling.. its so darn weird.

Now last night I had fever and chills, I just couldn't get warm no matter what.  And the worst part was I had to pee a LOT and after every trip down the hall to the john I had like an asthma attack.. I was gasping for breath,  my heart was pounding all over the place I was sweating like a pig.

today I am still dizzy and off balance.  this morning I was coughing up nasty nasty brown/ rust colored stuff, and I havent been coughing until this morning.

I really really really feel like crap..   could a total of 20 mg of valium in 16 hours cause all this? or is it coincidental.

A lot of it sounds like Ménière's but  I dunno.  I'm not having tinitus, but I'm so darn deaf I wouldnt notice a loss in hearing. although everything sounds wrong.

ick

yeh I know see the dr.  well theres no urget care place here. I will call my NP on monday, but  what do I do til then?

I don't see any reason why it would be a reaction to Valium.  Valium reactions are different than what you're experiencing.  If I had those symptoms I'd go to the closest emergency room.  You need to go the closest emergency room.  Did you have anesthesia in the dentist's office?  Lindy

Wow.  I'd wanna blame it on the dental work except for the cough.  It just sounds so miserable.  Hope these symptoms subside overnight.  How far to an urgent care?   Might be worth the trip, ya know?Emergency room NOW, Kathy! You're not there yet????
Emergency room NOW, Kathy! You're not there yet????
DITTO.  Lindy
Get thee to a doctor!!!Kathy..I hope you went to the ER!

Let us know what happened at the ER....cause that is where you should be.I had a similar incident something like this a long time ago after having 2 impacted wisdom teeth pulled.  I had been warned by someone else who also went through this.  I was hot one minute, cold the next, hot, cold--violently hot then cold for some time and I started throwing up--it was the blood I swallowed during the procdure.  Very, very sick.  After a day--it got better.  Unusal reaction and it would have scared the daylights out of me but someone had told that they had gone through before so I did not expect
the reaction I was not scared.  Then  I developed an infection that seemed to last forever.

I talked to the dentist about it aftefrward and he thought it was the nova cane.  I have never had another event like this again.

I hope you are ok.  Let us know.

I have to agree with everyone else please get to the ER as soon as you can. Take care of yourself.

The asthma attack sounds like it could be an allergic reaction to the novacaine.  I see you posted this last night.  I hope you went to the ER.

How are you doing???Hope everything is OK Yeah, I wish kathy would post, I'd like to hear how things turned out.  As I'm sure we all would.ok gang.
I woke up sunday feeling fine.
I mean  perfectly ok.. there is some residual dizziness, but nothing like there was. no asthma stuff.  no fever no chills, nothing.

Yeah I know I shoulda gone to the er, but I didnt.

I think I will blame it on some weird reaction to the dental work.. combination of valium and what ever they used  for numbng?  although I've have novocaine since I was 4 without problems..

thank you all for your worrying.

Glad you're feeling better, Kathy!Whew!  Glad you're feeling better.I too am glad you are feeling better. But, just so you know, having a drug since you were 4 doesn't mean you can't be allergic to it now. It works that way for many things ie bee stings. You just shrug it off and then bam, one day you are in full blown anaphylaxis. That happened to me twice since I got RA 7yrs ago. Before that I had never had an allergy to anything at all--ever. I had had nearly a year of Celebrex prior to RA and then when I was awaiting my first appt with RD, my GP Rx it to help with pain. One pill... I'm in the hospital. I took Prednisone a lot in my twenties for Ulcerative Colitis and then in my 40s, I had cortisone shots for bursitis(worked like a miracle). So, still awaiting that first appt with RD, my GP was told to Rx Prednisone. One pill...I'm in the throes of an Anaphylactic Shock episode that nearly killed me (paramedics, firemen, ambulance, hospital overnight-critical). Truth is, allergies can come from repeated exposure, I forget if it's a build up of the chemicals or the way the body responds. Funny thing is, I was the worst case of this I ever saw, mainly as I was not an ER nurse. If I saw even the start of an allergic reaction in one of my patients, I would start emergency protocols and call the dr, so I never saw a full blown case of anapylaxis. That's a concern nowadays... how can the overworked nurse keep such a close eye on every patient after every pill?(that's a gripe for another day)Anyway, we must always remember to watch for a reaction.... usually within a short time, that same day.

I've heard of people with hypothyroidism having trouble dealing with novocaineDrug reactions with stress of the work done by the dentist.  Glad the episode is over.
