Pain's Gone...how do I get rid of the pain relief | Arthritis Information

OK  The hip is replaced.  The pain is gone.  Now how do I get rid of the Oxy.  I was only on it since mid December.  I have gotten down to 10mg morning and night.  Now I need to get off that.  When I don't take it in the morning, by about 4pm I've got the jitters and sweats and chills.  What's the best way to finish this stuff off.  I've stretched the 12 hours to about 18, do I just keep stretching it bit by bit over the next days then gradually stop taking it altogether?   Any suggestions ....?

That would be the way I would think you should do it.  Never been there though, so I can't really say.  I'll bet your Dr. knows the most painless way though.  I bet he'd be happy to tell you too.And BTW, I'm happy to hear you're feling so well :) [QUOTE=pammy416]OK  The hip is replaced. Thanks Lin.  I will be going to see my dr in the next couple of days.  It just kind of hit me today as to why I was so jittery and got the sweats.  Hubby actually suggested it might be withdrawal.  I've never had to get off stuff before, so I wasn't really even thinking about it.  I so just want to get back to normal....Glad to hear that you are feeling so much better.  Your dr. will be very pleased to hear that you want to wean off the meds.  It is usually a slower process than we want it to be.  You don't want to go too fast and have the pain come back and surprise you.so glad you're not needing the meds...... I have no clues as to how to help you.. except that I'm hoping the best and the shortest end to this......  *hugs*Wish I knew what to say or do to help you.  I am glad you are going to see your RD about it. I know they will be able to help you. I am hoping the best for you in the meantime.  Pammy, I am so happy to hear you are doing so well with your new, shiny hip!  I can't help you with the drug issue except to echo what others have said; talk to your doctor.  I know you won't let this slow you down though, not after all you have gone through.  You are a strong woman! Pammy,  I don't know anything about narcotic withdrawal either.  I just wanted to say I'm happy you are feeling better.

thanks for your thoughts guys. I'll call my GP today and see what he says is the best way to go about this.  it's been about 18 hours since my last dose and I'm feeling OK except for a bit of chills and sweats.  Anyway I'll let you know how it goes after I talk to the doc.  The actual pain is under control with tylenol so I'm really happy with that.

Glad you are recovering well- hope the doc can help with the pain med taper. Hi Pammy, great news!  Hope you don't rush the withdrawal too much, patience is the key same as pred weaning.  Janie.
