Oh boy, now I have pleurisy.  Has anyone had it?  It is very painful. It came on quite suddenly on my left side, in the back just about in the shoulder blade area. I googled it, but not in the mood to read all of it.  I am sure that someone has a quick answer.  You gals are better than any medical encyclopedia!

Thanks!
Pleurisy, is an inflammation of the pleura,  the moist, double-layered membrane that surrounds the lungs and lines the rib cage. The condition can make breathing extremely painful.

Hope this short explanation helps.
I am soo sorry you have that! My MIL use to get it every once in a while. She has not had it in a while though. Last time I remember her having it was back when daughter just started school, like 6 years ago. I am not sure why my MIL would get it. I think it had something to do with her use to having Hodgkins disease.

I remember her having the heating pad on her chest alot.

I hope you get better soon, and do not suffer much.

Much hugs to you.
GG

So sorry to hear you have pleurisy and are in pain.  Did the doc give you antibiotics?  If so, I hope they help you get better and you find some relief soon.

I don't know much about pleurisy, but you know I recently had my own lung problem, pneumonia, so I empathize.  Having no experience with pleurisy I have no advice, except to rest and eat nutritiously to fight and overcome this.

Take care, wishing you a quick recovery.

I had it once as a secondary cold illness. I don't remember anything about it except is was painful.

GG...........Hope you make a quick recovery.  How long does it ususally last?  I remember my mom getting it when I was a little kid.  She sure seemed to be in a lot of pain, just the slightest move was excruciating.

My Daddy had it not too long ago and it wasn't easy. I've never had it....but hear it's horrible. I hope you're feeling better soon.oh god I had it the first time when I was about 22, I thought I was having a heart attack, went to the er in a police  car (DH was a cop) and got treated.

That situation actually made me go to confession for the first time in about 8 years.  THAT experience so turned me off the Church that I hadnt been inside one until this year when we put Ally in Catholic school.

Anyway   short answer, inflamation of lining of the lung. Hurts like bloody hell, can be wet or dry.. wet means they are going to download a LOT of fluid from around your lung.
I had it about 5 years ago and remember it was awful! Painful and thought when I coughed that I would die. Dr prescribed some good cough med that knocked me out. I think it lasted about a week. I can't remember if I was on antibiotics or not but I sure can remember the pain. I hope you heal up fast and have much better days ahead.
take care
I got pleurisy once about 40 years ago when I was young and just started Nursing. I was in a steamy bathroom showering a patient and within 30 minutes I was in a hospital bed myself. Was nasty, thats all I can remember about it. In hospital about 8 days on antib's, but I guess these days its treatable at home.
The doctor told me that the steam in the bathroom exacerbated it and I probably had onset before that unbeknown to me!

Hope you feel better soon!
Uuuugh!!!  Pleurisy!  I don't even know where to start.  It can be something easy or it can be something hard.  Mine was first in the right lung lining and it collapsed that lung.  I had several procedures to drain the fluid, but they were unsuccessful, the fluid kept coming back.  I went through 2 more surgeries where they opened my chest, removed most of the pleura, then scarred the lung and glued it to my chest wall.  That worked pretty well.

I then had a small pocket this last year in the left lung, but it resolved on its own.  I still have pain in my left lung and I see my pulmonologist every 3 months.

I hope yours takes the easy route, the pain is sure no fun!
I want to Thank everyone for replying to my message and sharing your experience about this very painful condition.  I do have an appt. this afternoon with my Doc and I will share the results with all of you.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!
