Rituxan | Arthritis Information

Can anyone tell me about Rituxan? How it works and how it makes you feel? I changed RA doctor and let me tell you, it's like a new window has opened. He told me, in his 30 years of practice, he has never seen such a hight RA count as mine. He said it was over a 1000. I wish i knew what that meant..haha.Find out exactly how much - you might get to sell it!

Hi Ivypoe, do a search on this website and you will find recent posts and older ones on Rituxan, I am on it, can't decide if its doing anything or not, but lots of people have had huge positives with it, regards Janie.

Rituxan is biologic med delivered by IV infusion to deplete certain B cells and suppress your immune response. The initial "dose" is two infusions, two weeks apart. Follow-up doses, if recommended, can be given at 6 or 9 month intervals.

I got the initial two infusions, which took several hours each, and the only side effect I had was additional fatigue for a day or two. Although it depleted my B cells, I did not have any corresponding reduction in my symptoms or in my inflammation markers, so I did not get another dose. I had to wait for my B cells to replenish before I was able to go on a different biologic med. Some studies seem to indicate that it can take up to a year before seeing results, so perhaps the results would have been different if I stayed on it.

I've done quite well on Rituxan. I was able to achieve remission after 8 years of refractory RA.

I know several other people on the AF board who are doing very well on Rituxan also, including another long term RA patient who has gone into remission.
