OT--Food Saver/Vacuum Sealer | Arthritis Information

Does anyone have experience with/opinions about those Food Saver things? Or vacuum sealing devices generally.  My husband has asked for one for his birthday.  He brews his own beer and wants it mainly to keep excess hops fresh, but we would probably use it for other things.  But we'd only need smaller bags.  I saw "the" Food Saver is 0, I was looking for something more in the -0 range.  I saw that they have one for around .

Thanks!
We have one - it's great for cook-ahead meals, and for packaging/freezing homemade sauces, broth, cookie dough, etc. My MIL has one and she loves it.  Keeps things fresh practically forever, according to her.  I think I'll get one one of these days.

I am not able to help your decision.. but I am watching the thread.. I want one.

I have one, I don't use it as much as I should but it works great.

Hubby got one and uses it for us a lot.... great!

Hi Katie,

I love my foodsaver.  I bought mine on sale for 5 and I couldn't live without it.  Hiking_gal
Come garden season ours will be used nearly every day. It is an appliance that does just what it is advertised to do.
I got my husband a Foodsaver for Christmas. He does all the cooking and shopping and loves to take advantage of sales. Things like block cheeses, breads, nuts, etc. They really do last a long time.
If you get one you will find all kinds of things to use it for. You can reseal potato chip bags, too.
He tried one thing that REALLY didn't work, though. NEVER seal up fresh broccoli in one of those bags. When you open it, the gases have built up inside and the smell is totally disgusting!! After he did that, I read the directions and it said you have to blanch fresh veggies, first or they will do that. We threw away about 5 lbs of broccoli crowns! He buys quite a bit at once because I love the broccoli salad he makes, but we won't try sealing it up again

My grandmother use to use one and she would cook on a weekend and package up meals in single servings and then just pull out a bag and boil it and she would have dinner like she'd been cooking all day. Very little clean up involved either that way.

I think I want one too. I don't mind cooking on the weekends....but can't stand to come home from work and cook; and guess what? Everyone wants to eat everynight! Go figure.

I'll keep an eye on this too.
Thanks everyone!  So I guess there is just one "food saver" brand?  Now I am wondering if the one is enough...
Thanks everyone!  So I guess there is just one "food saver" brand?  Now I am wondering if the one is enough...
Mine cost around or so a few years back.  Works like a charm.
