This is the second time in less than a week I have had insomnia. I have officially been awake 27 hours. I tried to go to sleep around 11pm and just laid in the bed wide awake until 1am and than around 3am I decided I would get on the internet. Then at 5am the alarm went off. Then I stayed awake & played on the internet to make sure I did not fall asleep before getting daughter off to school. Then she left I came in the house and laid down and tossed and turned and then my legs started acting up again. So... I went and took a hot shower and then I tried to go to sleep, but then I just could not so I got on the internet again.

Long story short...

I AM STILL AWAKE!!!That's just awful.  :( I am so sorry!  Are you on something related to Darvocet?  That is the only time I had insomnia.  It was AWFUL.  Joonie,

I've been having chronic insomnia and finally had to go to the doctor.  One of the over-the-counter things that worke for me (though caused a migraine for me) was L-Theanine (Suntheanine).  You might try it.  There were several people on this board that have had good luck with melatonin.  Maybe that's an option for you.

I know what you're going through.
Yikes Joonie! I hope you are asleep now. I have never had that happen before so I can't say I know what that feels like but I imagine it would be pretty terrible. Have you talked to your doctor about it?
I finally passed out when hubby got home a little after 3pm. I slept until around 4pm and then my legs were restless again. The feeling I get when they are restless is like when someone sticks their finger between your toes and your foot involuntarily jerks because of the "tickling" feeling. That is what I get most times. But I also get where my leg jerks really hard like someone snatched my leg really hard. It does not hurt much, right now. But it is pure torture when my knees are inflammed and stuck in one position from the hard swell and all.

I have only been taking none-2 Ultrams a day. I have been taking the muscle relaxer twice a day at most. I really have no need for the pain pills & muscle relaxers right now. I have just been taking them for the throbs I get just before the rain comes thru which has been alot this pass week. But no flare!! WOOHOO!!

So... I have slept a little over an hour today and here it is 11:30pm and I do not even feel sleepy yet. My body feels tired, but my mind does not.

I am going to talk to my RD about my current insomnia when I go to her next week.

Looks like I am going to have a lot of complaints for her this visit. So... sad. I just hate having so many problems and just think half the problems I was having while flaring went away when I got the Remicade. Now... if the Remicade would just work on fibro too LOL!
Joonie, try taking some calcium/magnesium supplements before you go to bed.  They get rid of that restless leg/kinda achy feeling I get in my legs and it's good for helping you sleep also.  The magnesium is the part that helps the legs, and the calcium is good for your bones!  They are really inexpensive too, which helps a lot!Joonie... although the calcium & mag are probably helpful to the cause, have you tried a simple OTC Tylenol PM? It's just tylenol with benadryl. I frequently take 1/2 or 1 tab and it knocks me out and on a very rare occasion, 2, but that was more during post shoulder surgery. Anyway, it works for me, and maybe it can help you until your dr appt.
You are 2-3hrs ahead of me so hopefully, you are asleep by now.

Nope, I am still awake. I done a lot of walking today and it made my left ankle and foot swell with inflammation, as we are to be getting a really bad storms coming thru Thursday. So... my body is flaring just a little until the storms get here.

Benadryl does not make me sleepy. I get it thru my IV when I go to get my Remicade and it has never made me sleepy. It gives me a buzz and then I am kinda hyped up for the day.

I have not tried the OTC Tylenol PM. My RD told me if the last time I tried to get good sleep with Rozerem, if it did not work to add Tylenol PM. But there was no way I could get a good 7 hrs of UNINTERRUPTED sleep.

I am going to try to go to sleep now. My legs have simmered down again.

Thanks for the suggestions and replies!
Joonie if you like tonic water try drinking that, I have heard that it stops leg cramps and those funny feelings the quinine in it is supposed to help with that, I have started drinking that and my restless funny feelings in my legs stopped.  Also if you can, stop drinking diet coke or anything with aspartame or artificial sweetner, that stuff is poison!hon.. I hate to break it to you.. but you're going ot have to find a dr (neurologist) who will prescribe Requip...... it's the ONLY thing that takes away my RLS and I sleep like a baby!!

Have you been DX with RLS? This is probably really far fetched...but could you be allergic to one of the meds you take?  I can't take sudafed night time  because I am allergic to something in it and what you described up there sounds very similar to what happens  to me. I get these involuntary jerks in my legs and in my arms and my heart races so I feel very anxious and can not sleep. It only lasts until the meds wear off though.

Well, anyway I hope you have gotten some more sleep.

hi, i can totally relate!!  Being bipolar, and the insomnia, i can't sleep w/o sleep meds..
i recommend ATARAX.. ask your Dr..

and what Hillhoney said  about the calcium, mag.. plus, I've heard Iron helps w/ restless legs..

I do know what its like being awake that long.. when the mind can't shut off... the mania, for me.. ugh..

I also add Valium sometimes, to just get really relaxed.. plus the Atarax.

Nightquill doesn't hack it for you?
Hope you can find some good meds and get some great sleep soon!

Also, is the bed freshly made, can you get hubby to put on clean sheets?
Do you have a scentsstory player? I love those!! My fav aromotherapy smell is
Mtns and meadows...
