Enbrel vs Humira | Arthritis Information

Hi all.  I am new to this forum.  I have been diagnosed with PA for 6 years now.  A couple of years ago I was doing really well, only having to take a couple of sulphasalazine a day.  Then I had my son.  My arthritis really started to flare up.  I was bumped up to 6 sulpha tablets a day and 2 celebrex, but my mobility has been severely limited for 6 months now.  I have finally admitted that I need something stronger.  I presently have to decide between taking Enbrel or Humira.  I would be very interested to hear what decisions others have made when faced with the same choice, and why you chose the way you did.  How are these drugs working for you?  I am scared, of course, as these carry way worse potential side effects than the drugs I am presently taking.  I would appreciate any help or advice that you could offer.
Thanks!
Winterstar2009-04-06 12:04:46Hi and Welcome Winterstar, I'm sorry that you have to be here but hopefully you can get some answers.  Lets just say I'm in clinical remission with Humira, MXT, and Sulfasalazine.  I have RA and PsA.  Both seem to be in remission with this regimen of drugs.  I can't tell you which one is best.  All I can say is do your research.  Enbrel is usually the next drug in the medication ladder.  It might be a starting point for you.  Yes, they do carry potentially worse side effects than Sulfa.  but you also have to seriously consider your quality of life.  Keep us posted on your decision and how it plays out.  Take care.  LindyThank you very much for replying!  Up until now I hadn't heard of anyone taking any of these drugs along with sulfasalazine!  I was beginning to worry :D   Your results are encouraging.  The research is scary.  I do agree with you, however, that it has become a necessary risk.  I have a couple more days to make up my mind.
