So this 6th grade girl in Quebec gets permission from Mom (parent's are divorced, she lives with Dad) to go on a class trip to Quebec city.   She gets herself grounded from using the internet at Dad's house and he caught her using it anyway so he canked the trip.  The girl takes her Father to court and the judge OVERULES this girls FATHER and tells him he has to let her go on the trip.  He appealed the ruling and lost again.  Is that an outrageous abuse of power or what?   I'd go to jail before I'd allow that girl to go on that trip if I were that Dad.

where is the line that allows a parent to parent their child?
she's not the first child to get the courts to overrule a parent...... this has to stop.... It's hard enough being a parent these days.... then to have to fight city hall too!!

Hummm....

I remember the day when you were told no, and if you kept asking you got slapped in the face. I, of course, hardly ever got slapped in the face, because I learned really fast that once my mommy said no, she meant it and to never ask again... hahahaaa!!

Screw grounding LOL! I never got grounded. I remember I use to lie to my 2 only friends and tell them I was grounded The judge should be spanked. That's outrageous.

But hmmm... I wonder how why the girl even thought to go to the courts in the first place? Raise your hand if you think mom was behind this..
As a child of a particularly ugly divorce, I can atest to the fact that some parents can be particularly adept at using the kids to screw the ex. I'll bet you that even if mom didn't come up with the idea to take dad to court, she was at least supportive. How did you read my mind leila?  They do have some different laws there!

Pat

What about this one for you -

2 children, around 6 & 8 yrs old, live with their mother (I think in NZ).  Their father lives here in Aust.  Parents divorced.

The children have rarely have seen their father, BUT recently dad took mum to court because he said mum didn't speak nicely about him to the children ....

The judge agreed with dad and gave mum a smack on the wrist saying it was unfair of her to do that.

So... wait for it .... the judge then ruled that the girls leave their mum and go to Australia to live with their father ......

How devastating would that be for the children --- they have only ever lived with mum and now the court has plucked them out of the home they live in and shipped them to someone they hardly know in a different country !!!

And YES I am paraphrasing, but you get the jist.

Is that an abuse of power or what !!!!

You would think that if the dad really cared, he'd have uprooted his own life to move near them instead of allowing them to come to him.

In the Quebec house, their had to already be such a lack of respect for the dad .  I shudder to think of my dad if I told him I was taking him to court.  LOL!  He would have flatened me. After he was done laughing .
Those wacky Canadiens.....We used to have one hereBad judge.  Get him out of office!!!!!This is more common place than we'd like to believe... though it may not go to court or be publicized....
I run a website for second wives/stepmothers to support each other.  And over the years, the game play that (usually ex wives/biological mothers) play is unbelieveable..

I hear you Bab.  We, as a family, have been dealing with an ex dil who managed to twist the system for 10 yrs. Ds has been jumping through hoops to try to see his daughter.  She could never use the child support card as he never missed but always managed to get around any and everything in the court order until the last judge put his foot down.  She is still up to her old tricks but gd is growing up now and she is making her own mind up as to what is wrong and what is right.
Linncn-

Bad judge.
