Wow - I live in a town with several Hispanic stores (which sometimes have real-sugar Coke straight from Mexico), but almost no Jewish people or stores (and the Jews I do know are somewhat unorthodox

(MYFOX NATIONAL) - Those celebrating Passover aren't the only ones buying up the kosher versions of Coke at grocery stores. Plenty others are scooping them up because Passover Coke uses sugar, which many say tastes better than the usual high-fructose corn syrup version.

Every year during Passover, the bottles fly off the shelves. Jewish custom states that foods with leavening in them, including corn, cannot be consumed. So rabbis supervise the Coke production line to make sure they qualify as kosher.

Fans of the kosher Coke say that the beverage has a more "natural" taste. One of the few places it can be found is in Mexico, where Coke is sold in glass bottles. Urbanachiever on USAToday.com said , "I had a Mexican Coca-Cola made with cane sugar about a year ago and go out of my way to find colas made with sugar instead of corn syrup now because they have a much crisper, fresher taste to them." RHO1953 added, "I absolutely believe there is a difference. The consistency and taste are definitely better."

According to Star-K , which certifies foods as kosher, A&W root beer, Canada Dry ginger ale, 7-Up and Pepsi are among the sodas that are also OK for Passover.

I went to a church that had a Passover meal to show people what it was like.  Interesting.
