Psoriatic Arthritis: New Drug Shows Promise | Arthritis Information

Psoriatic arthritis affects about 11 percent of patients with psoriasis. Anti-tumor necrosis factor α (anti-TNFα) agents, which block signaling molecules that induce inflammation, improve the symptoms of psoriatic arthritis. Golimumab is a new human monoclonal antibody that works against TNFα and has been shown to be beneficial within two weeks of the first subcutaneous injection in a phase II rheumatoid arthritis trial. A new phase III, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, the largest of its kind to be completed with a biologic agent to treat psoriatic arthritis and the first placebo-controlled study evaluating the effect of a TNF inhibitor on nail psoriasis, found that golimumab significantly improved active psoriatic arthritis and associated skin and nail psoriasis. The study was published in the April issue of Arthritis & Rheumatism

Thanks for the info Lynn, although i do not post much I do read very often and since I was dxnd with PA after psoriasis I started a circuit of meds starting with Humira.Humira worked for about a years time with my Rumy adding MTX & Folic ,but eventually the Humira stopped working into the winter.Rumy then put me on Remicade which seemed to work well from Jan through about Oct when I started to flair again.Alo he had taken me off of MTX in Oct in response to my cocern of the affects. This past winter was rough for me and my body and my skin. The first thing my rumy did was put me back on mtx and in Feb changed the remicade infusuions from every 8 weeks to every 6 weeks. As of last week 04/08 he upped the dosage of remicade from 600 to i beleive 800.Any way i hope this works because spring is here and i love being outside ,which is hard to do when it is 80 degrees outside and you are the only one wearing long pants & shirt.Sorry for the long rant, however my rumy is telling me about a new drug that has just been fda approved to treat my Psorisis and that they are just waiting to market it.There is no brand name yet but think it may be from Centocor (ustekinumab) or (cnto 1275).Does anyone have any insight on this? and if so please post it.
