I have always had this bad habit, but have noticed tht in the past couple of years that I rarely can do this. I always have the sensation  to "pop" them but nothing happens when I do.

How many of you still can crack?? also do you feel Ra is in all of your fingers? I only feel it in thumb, pointer middle fingers.
I know that cracking knuckles is long believed to cause arthritis, but have read does not cause it....
ugh... that sounds painful w/ RA...... both my daughters do this!!  Here are these beautiful young women cracking their nails......It's a compulsion that drives me crazy!! .....Funny you mention this -- I've been cracking a lot lately and don't know why! I guess cracking knuckles releases a gas from inside the joint. It is harmless. I bet it can put stress on tendons/ligaments around the joint tho. I've always cracked my knuckles - as far back as I can remember.  My dad always does too.  I think that's where I learned it - my mom used to holler at both of us for it, which only made us crack 'em more. I use to when I was a kid, but I have not been able to do it since I was a teenager.

I tried right now, and it is just painful and nothing pops.

All of my fingers are affected by RA, some more than others.
