Signs That You Need Knee Replacement | Arthritis Information

IM curious as to what the signs are. I get this twinge in my knee every once in a while. When I get moving it goes away, but there is def something going on there. It will go away for months then come back. Is this a sign of future knee replacement? Zero,

Just came over here for a look-see - I usually 'live' in the RA section and it seems most others do too.  it is difficult to say if your twinges are a sign of future trouble - but perhaps by now u hve checked with your doc.  My knee replacement nearly 2 yrs ago was pat RA and part as result of being hit on a  pedestrian crossing years ago which resulted in a cracked tibia; specialists then said I'd hve osteo later on.  Took quite some years to develop.  Op has been a complete success but of course had to work on exercises afterwards.  By the time I had op the x-rays showed bone-on-bone, but one ortho specialist a few years earlier said too early to hve i done.  Replacements have a life span and if u are young then they like to wait as long as possible.

Its Too Early for me to have my new knee replacements I have got to wait as I to young at the moment. Middle-aged and third-aged patients often suffer joint problems, chafing, swelling, and bone and joint injuries that can lead to premature failure of articular cartilage. When this happens, the joint swells, becomes painful and complicates the daily mobility. In these situations, it is necessary to replace the hip joint / knee with artificial components of a same form (prosthesis), a surgery called arthroplasty of the hip / knee. This operation is the standard method of treatment for arthrosis in advanced stages , rheumatoid arthritis and avascular necrosis. After the implant of a prosthesis, the patient notes a major improvement in the quality of life through improvement or disappearance of the pain and regaining joint mobility, being able to resume active behaviour: the ability to walk, and ability to perform ordinary daily activities.

just a bit of info.
OK, so what are the signs that you're ready for total knee replacement?

the lsit is endless. pain of course, varus  deformity is another but really pain that affects your ability to mobilize on a daily basis is the big one. Pain that wakes you at night, and pain that requires narcotics.

I need total knee replacement in both knees, but they want to wait until I am 60. Here is a list of my symptoms:

Pain
Swelling
A feeling of the knee "giving way"
Uneven gait
A crunching sound, especially when I walk up stairs

............did I mention pain??? LOL

That is my biggest symptom. Hope this helps! how long do you have to wait then Vee? They wanted me to wait til 54 I made to 52[QUOTE=Vee]I need total knee replacement in both knees, but they want to wait until I am 60. Here is a list of my symptoms:

I wonder why some Drs want to wait to do knee replacement? I had one knee replaced this
past May and I was 45 at that time. My eldest sister needs both knees replace and they will not do them till she is much older.
I thought the whole idea was to relieve the pain, so why wait when someone is in so much pain?
Hello, again! I'm not sure what the logic of waiting is, but I have been told that you can only have the surgery twice. They don't really know how long these joints will last a person. It depends on the patient's activity level, among other things, I think. I guess they don't want to do it too soon for that reason. I really don't want to have it at all. LOL I do notice that this year the "crunching" in my right knee is getting louder. I just had a steroid injections in both hips for bursitis caused by my uneven gait because my knees are shot.
