Can anyone tell me have any of you had a good day without bad pain. I can't seem to ever have a good day. I am in pain all the time and it never stops. I would like a day of feeling good. No matter what I try it don't work. I am on 20mg predisone and a pain pill and thats it. My body just will not take any tnf without getting very sick. Or a bad sisus infection. I was going to try the MTX but love and behold I went to my family doctor and my white blood was high. Because I had a bad ear infection and sisus. I don't know why these drugs keep striking my ears and sisus. Joan Angel- I actually had a good day today without pain. It was so odd it felt abnormal. It had been so long since I had a day like that- but wouldn't you know it? I still got that hopeful feeling that maybe I would stay that way. All day I felt good. Guess what. After dinner I started getting shooting pains in my ankles. Then my neck started aching. My knees got stiff and my shoulders were sore. My hands and wrists got achy.
I am on 20 mgs. MTX and 9 mgs. prednisone.......

I wish you some good days ahead- you deserve it! How's your daughter doing?
Hi Joan....I have just read a few of your posts back and see you were going to be getting on Humira. Did that not go ahead? I realise you suffer from some terrible allergies but boy, surely something out there has to work for you.  Many people here are finding Rituxan is helping them very much, maybe that could be considered to try? Of course I dont know your insurance situation/cost etc but???

Have you tried Plaquenil and Sulfasalazine? Maybe go take a look at the AP thread and see if that may suit you. I am just so sad to hear that someone is in so much pain and nothing can be done. There WILL be something, but your dilemma is finding it.

Hang in there and get your Rheumy working.....nobody should have to endure this! And I know that some people in your other posts have said to try to avoid Prednisone but I can tell you that if it were me, Id be taking higher doses for , hopefully, quick relief. I am suprised your Doc hasnt upped the dose given how much pain you are in with no other meds apart from an ineffectual pain pill. In the end,  there is no quality of life if someone is in constant, horrific pain. End of story.

Sorry, just reread this post and Im rambling on about meds that obviously need to be prescribed and your Rheumy may well know they wont suit you but I would be harrassing him/her for some positive results soon.

Hugs to you and hope you get some help soon.

Hi Angel -

I have had months and months of 'no pain' and believe you can to.  Like Lyndee, keep after your rheumy until he finds something that will work for you.

Hang in there, OK?

Pip
I've been months in the good books but lately, bit by bit, the levels are increasing. I think the doctor wants me off of the predisone because it is causing problems to. I have catacts in both eyes now and he said it is caused by the predisone. I have been on that for over 2 years now. They try to decrease it and I go into such a bad flare worse than I am now. Unable to walk raise my arms. I think the predisone is causing problems with my muscles to. And for the hurmia I was going to start it but we decided not to cause I talked to the phamscy were i would get the drug and they told me that the hurmia is almost the same as enbrel and I was on that for 6 months and had infection one after another.  So thats why I didn't get started on it. And as far as the other meds I tryed allot of them to with no good results so thats were I am now. I have a sisus infection and ear so I was going to try the MTX but now I can't do that either. Joan Hello Angel, have you considered a second or even a third opinion? I certainly understand the hassle of getting all your medical records, but sometimes having someone look at all those reports and results with 'fresh' eyes is better than a month's repose at a resort.

I am sorry to hear that you have fared worse with Enbrel than without and that you have opted out of Humira.

I have an acquaintance that was in a similar predicament who went off all medications and supplements for 30 days, all the while being closely monitored by her physicians. At the end of that time RA symptoms had stabilized, lab work has reached a balance (albeit abnormal) and a gradually reintroduction of MTX and Plaquenil followed by Humira brought her into clinical remission.

At least sometimes chronic pain is from previous joint destruction either complicated or caused by the fact that our human bodies are ageing. I know that I tend to blame all my ills on RA, while in truth many of the aches and pains I have are due to my age, illnesses and injuries not associated with RA, and the fact that as a youth I did not always take as good care of my body as I should have. ...

Best wishes, Shug

Angel58, have your tried Plaquenil or Sulfasalazine?  I had wonderful results the first two years when I was on only Plaquenil and an anti-inflammatory.

You definitely need some help medically in controlling your disease.  I was having a ton of infections as well a few years ago.  Constant ear infections eventually ended in a ruptured ear drum in each ear.  Luckily, my RD(loved her before she retired)  didn't just pull me off the meds.  Her husband was an ENT.  She didn't send me to him since that might be a bit awkward but she referred me to someone else.  They did allergy testing(never had allergies before!) and I popped up basically allergic to everything.  Began allergy shots and the sinuses got tons better and the ear infections are down to about 2 a year.  Point is---I think you need to push the issue.  If not mtx, then something has to help.  Pred. makes it hard to fight infections as well.

Have you seen an ENT regrading your sinuses and ears?  There might be something that dr. could do to help you out.

Hope you can find something to help you out.....
Yes I was to a ENT and you know what he told me get off those meds and you will start to feel better so that did that. I had 2 major sisus surgery's already a few years ago.
