Quick question re Naproxen | Arthritis Information

Is Naproxen considered a mild/safe drug. I ask because I have a regular doctor who I can tell is not crazy about me taking it (I don't take it every day) and then a Rheumatologist who says go ahead don't worry.    It was talked about being banned in Canada at least around the time of the Vioxx scare but it's still on the market and I think it's been around for years and considered OK.  I take MTHX and Plaquinel too but Naproxen helps with the pain when I feel the need to use it.   Thanks for all your help the past year.  Gillian.

It's the same thing as Aleve and it can burn a hole right through your stomach if you aren't careful......but the same can be said for Advil; which is my daily "drug of choice".

Just make sure you ALWAYS have something in your stomach when you take it; and keep all lab appointments with your RD. All of these medications can harm your liver and kidneys but as long as you get your lab work done regularlly they SHOULD catch any problems before they become too serious.

Life with a chronic illness like RA isn't exactly like living a "normal" life. We're going to have to take medication daily.....there's little we can do to avoid that. Surely your GP is aware of that. Of coarse if you can manage your pain without it.....that would be best; but it's likely unrealistic.

Good Luck Gill.

Hi

I've taken naproxen for many years...it's not given me any problems. I could tell tho when it wore off as I took 2 a day, and one was at bed time. I'd wake up feeling worse if I didn't take it.

My son was just prescribed naproxen at the ER for a sore ankle.
