Sorry but I am in a complaining mood again. I am feeling yukky and still bummed because I still don't have any answers  as to the  swelling in my legs. Now we will check for the veins blood flow and or clots. Legs are still painful and I am back on lasiks for the mean time.    PCP thinks maybe the Enbrel had nothing to do with it at all. Says maybe Veinous insufficiancy or neuropothy. Not quite sure what the veinous insufficiancy is but the neuropothy scares me. I have always had my blood sugar under control until the prenidone  I wish someone could figure this out and soon.  Rant away, we're here to hear. What part of your legs are swelling? Are you on your feet alot? I know when I have been up on my feet alot, my ankles and feet swell and hurt something fierce. Has a nerve conduction study been done? I too hope you get it straightened out soon. Let us know what you find out. In the mean time,  please try not to worry. I know easier said than done.

take care
hi Mom, i have peripheral neuropathy but it has nothing to do with diabetes, I first noticed it while on Arava, so as it is a side effect of that drug, they took me off of it, but I still have the problem altho initially it improved after stopping Arava.  My RD and GP say it is the disease that is affecting my nerve endings, so I hope it is not anything too serious for you, best of luck, Janie.
hi Mom, i have peripheral neuropathy but it has nothing to do with diabetes, I first noticed it while on Arava, so as it is a side effect of that drug, they took me off of it, but I still have the problem altho initially it improved after stopping Arava.  My RD and GP say it is the disease that is affecting my nerve endings, so I hope it is not anything too serious for you, best of luck, Janie.
I am not on my feet to much except when I am home and even then I try to keep it to a minimum of a 10-15 minutes because my legs do start to hurt.  Nerve conduction testing has not been done yet. I hate to get it done. Had it for the carpal tunnel and although it was not  horribly awful it was very  unpleasant, at least for me.
I wonder if Enbrel could cause neuropathy?? This all started after the enbrel???  I am just so bummed. Thanks for listening all and for your comments and suggestions.
Hi Mom,

I am taking medrol which causes swelling in the legs, it may be the prednisone that is giving you problems.  I also see you are taking Diclofenac which also may be the cause. I have been having problems with swelling the last couple of months but I do not know if it is because I have stopped taking plaquenil and was without my Arava for a couple of weeks because of supplier problems.  I have never taken Enbrel so I cant help you with that, sorry.

I understand how you feel.  I have several errands to run and I am trying to figure out the easiest way to get them done.

Keep your feet up as much as possible and rest, I hope you feel better and get some answers soon.
of course you may rant!

IDK what is causing your leg issues.....  I hope that your dr finds out asap.

I have neuropathy..... I believe mine is RA induced...
Aw Mom, its so frustrating when you can't get it figured out.  All I can say is get flat in bed and raise your legs up higher than your body with some pillows.  Unfortunately, that only moves the excess fluid back up into your body, but you might get some leg relief.  Big huggles ~~ CathyCathy's right except I believe it is get the legs higher than your heart ... at least that is what my dr's have said.
Hi Mom,
I had swelling in my feet once when on a vacation in Yosemite. All the photos of me show me barefoot with my feet in the icy waters of every stream and waterfall!  I don't remember why it happened, I didn't have RA back then.

Having the edema all over your legs must be awful. The purpose of elevating feet and legs is to get the extra fluid back up to your whole circulatory system. And then there's the whole issue about having to get up to go to the bathroom so often because of the diuretic, Lasix.

Please keep us posted, even to rant.

M23, I am sorry you are still feeling so bad!  Like Snow said, we are here for each other so of course, we don't mind hearing from you!  To me, it helps to vent because not only do you get understanding from others but, just maybe, someone suggest something you have not thought of in helping to cope!

I wish I could offer more, but you have my good wishes and healing energy coming your way!  Well I am sorry to hear that you are having this problem. I do know that MTX makes some peoples legs swell. But your legs are also painful so I do not think that is a side effect of medication. Both legs? That is a puzzle. I hope they get to the bottom of this soon.

Always feel free to rant.
I have PN in my legs but it's never caused any swelling....just pain. I take lyrica and it helps a lot! They don't thikn any one medication caused it.....just years of living with RA.I've been thinking about your edema. There are a variety of causes; venous insufficiency, lymphedema, congestive heart failure, electolyte imbalances, immune reactions, infections (ie cellulitis, wounds), and I forget what else. Compression helps for some but is bad for others (ie congestive heart failure or cellulitis or wounds). So, I think you really need to get the cause determined soon. Until then, your Lasix and raising your feet at least a little are appropriate. There is a therapeutic massage technique for lymphedema but it's contraindicated for other causes so I'm not going to tell you about that now. It's good to use your legs once in awhile for trips to bathroom. It's probably not a good idea to sit at desk long to use computer. Hopefully you have a laptop!  Please, let us know what your doctor says.

Hi. I am new to the forum. Was diagnosed with RA in 2000.
I noticed that you(janiefx) said your Dr. said you had a problem with your RA affecting your nerve endings. My Dr. told me the same thing and only symptoms I have is the top of my arms and hands sting terribly. I scratch constantly. It nearly drives me crazy at times. What are/were your symptoms. My Dr. put me on Colchacine in 2001. It worked great but it has started making my liver enzymes increase so he took me off in January. My arms started stinging immediately. I saw him yesterday and he is stopping my Orencia for a while and prescribed Lyrica and Hydroxyzine. I will not be able to take both of them - I cannot get awake this morning and my head is so foggy. If you or anyone else has or has had these symptoms I would like to know how you are treated.

I had this problem before I was ever diagnosed with the RA and saw two medical doctors and four dermatologist for it and no one could come up with anything that would stop the stinging. I mentioned it to the Rheumatology Dr. and he diagnosed the above.

Hope you get some answers.
