Rheumy prescribed predisone.  I have heard enough horror stories of steriods.  Question should I take it or not.  Any suggestions??Why did the RD prescribe Pred?  It is a burst pack, that only lasts for a couple of weeks?  Lindy

I know most people feel bad on prednisone.  They can't sleep and some even complain of weight gain.  I, on the other hand, love the side effects I have from it.  I feel great.  It completely takes my pain away.  I sleep well.  I even lose weight on it.  I call it a miracle in a little white pill.

I don't knnow.  I never took this medication before.  What it is used for, I have no clue, except it is a steriod. It's used to reduce inflammation. I'm betting the RD is getting you a pred pack which has a burst and taper. You take so many the first day and and then the dosage lowers in the following days. It's usually a temporary fix, but we have lots of folks who've been on it for quite a while. If you are in a severe amount of pain stuck in a flare - I'd take it. It really does help with the RA symptoms. Has your RD discussed a treatment plan other than pred?
My personal experience with steroids is that they work wonders for the inflammation and pain. However, even at the lowest dosage, I become the megabitch. Straight up evil, I tell ya!
