OT: I could have gotten arrested again... | Arthritis Information

Let me start by saying yeah I have a lead foot.. I know..

When Mark and I were divorced, I managed to get 4 moving violations in less than 2 years. I admit the speeding but I still say I came to a complete stop at that stop sign.. I mean how can you possibly NOT stop when you do a left turn?

Anyway, it got kinda goofy. I had JUST been diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy and was very sick and was on a slew of meds witch made me have the worst brain fog imaginable.

Soooooooooo I managed to forget to go to court.

Soooooo I was speeding ..again in a town which wants to catch everyone going even 2 mph over the limit, and when the cop saw my license he appologized to me then arrested me.. sigh yeah I had to post bond and everything.

Last Monday I was driving along (going EXACTLY the limit, when a NON road patrol county mountie car came towards me. Next thing I know its behind me with the lights going. He gets out and asks if I knew why he stopped me. I said, "no" because I had no clue. He explained that his car was equipped with a device that reads the plates of every car it approaches and he gets a beep if the plates are suspended. He took my license, registration and insurance card and went back to his car. then he came back and told me not only were the plates suspended but so was MY license.. SHEEESH
I had no idea. It appears there was a 16 day lapse in insurance coverage 2 years ago.

Anyway he asked if I had someone to call and I explained my DH was teaching about a mile down the road and he couldnt come get me.. The cop realized he knew DH from when DH taught at the jail evenings. and suddenly his whole demeanor changed. He had been polite and respectful but suddenly it was like he was trying hard to help. He asked where I was going and I truthfully said "to the cardiology clinic in town here's the paperwork if you need it."

So he comes in close to the window and said "look, you are heading North and I am heading south.." I won't see you if you are driving that way.. and I wouldn't know if you took the seriously back roads home.."

He gave me 2 tickets, and I have already taken care of them the grand total on fines etc? 8...

He could have arrested me, and impounded the car... I am sooooooooooo lucky.

Oh my goodness, what a story! I'm glad you didn't have to spend time in the slammer!
We would have all wondered where you were!  I get brain fog like that too, from RA, so know I must be home by 1pm before it hits. What a way to live. I'm also glad you weren't in a car accident!

I got 2 moving violation tickets 15 years and 19 years ago... for going too slow!!
You can imagine the ribbings I got throughout the driving class.  I think I could probably have contested each if I had the time to spend a day in court. The last one was on my way to night shift. I was already so tired from taking care of my poor MIL after her stroke as well as my own family. It was 11pm, on a lonely city street with no other cars to judge my speed, though I could've looked at my speedometer. But the other time was a huge meanness of that officer. It was the day of the big earthquake here in the San Francisco Bay Area in Oct 1989. I had been at the hospital helping my sister through labor and delivery all night (her hubby faints at medical events). Then I went back to her house to get Mom and 3yr old niece to take to hospital. My sis had just recently moved and I only knew one route to her house, on the freeway. On the way home, there were no cars in sight to judge my speed which I guess was slow. Well, not only was I exhausted, but we were scared because that fwy a few miles back had just fallen down and killed people! My mom told the officer our big sob story about it all and how it was the only route we knew... to no avail. Everybody said I would've won that case, but I would've had to take off work, go the 2 hours from home to the court there... just couldn't afford to do that.  I'm still the butt of jokes about speeding tickets, although it always ends in angry protests that I got the tickets.
