Reducing pred dose and swelling | Arthritis Information

Most everyone that has been here for a while knows what I've been through the last 6 months with prednisone so I won't go over it again.  I've managed to get myself to 35mg daily now but I seem to be getting a lot of swelling under the arms around my chest area.  This is weird to me because I've put myself on a strict diet and have been exercising and actually have lost a few pounds so it can't be from weight gain.  Has anyone else experienced swelling or fluid retention when cutting their dose of prednisone?

Bob
Bob, I haven't been on pred. long term but man, what I went through with it when I was on it for that pneumonia in Nov, Dec and part of Jan... I feel like it just wrecked my body.  I have all this extra weight around my middle, my upper arms and my neck and yes to the edema too.  The edema could be attributed to something else, I suppose, as it comes and goes.

I feel like even though I exercise and eat right, it does no good for what was put on by the pred.  I lost weight when I was so sick and the odd thing is I weigh less than before I was ill yet I still have all this junk!  Go figure!

I don't know if it will eventually go away or what, if anything I can do to shape it up?

Bob, how great that you are down to 35mg a day!  I hope you can keep going.  I'm pulling for you!
good job on reducing the dose, bob!!  I know it can be hard.
I can't commiserate about the pred gains or the feelings you have, because I've not used pred long term.

I'm just here standing next to waddie and pulling for you too!!

Hope it gets to be less of an issue for you.. Go BOB!!!
