First Appointment coming up | Arthritis Information

So my first Rheumatologist appointment is next Monday, April 27th.
Since I have yet to see a Rheumatologist, I still have no medication prescribed to me. I had Aleve, which is what my doctor told me to take until the appointment with the specialist. But I've been in more pain than the previous weeks and the Aleve are gone now.
All thats in the med cabinet right now is Ibuprophen (400mg) that is prescribed to my brother because he recently broke his foot.
Do you guys think it would be ok for me to take one of those?
Just till I get some more Aleve tomorrow.
BTW, the Aleve doesnt seem to work at all.

Im sort of relieved that I've actually been in pain lately, because for a few weeks I didn't have much at all and I was scared I wasn't going to be able to help the specialist figure out what was wrong.
I mean, I dont want to be in pain, but I dont want to go in and be like, "yeah ive been feeling fine, nothing hurts"
You know. I think i have swelling going on in my hands too. My hip hurts, my fingers hurt. Its been kind of a mess lately. But overall the pain isn't too bad. Definitely not like some of the posts ive been reading on here.

Anyway, sorry about the long explination.
Question was: Do you guys think it would be ok for me to take the Ibuprophen just tonight?
I believe you can take 4 - 200mg of IBU = 800mg every 6 hours. I use to take that for my pain, before I gave into taking pain meds. It helped a little with my swelling as well.

Good luck at your appt and please do keep us posted!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE. I WILL TAKE IT THEN. MY BACK IS KILLING ME RIGHT NOW.
I WILL POST ALL ABOUT MY VISIT WITH THE SPECIALIST ON MONDAY.
I CANT WAIT TO HEAR WHAT YOU GUYS THINK. YOU SEEM LIKE A SMART BUNCH! =]
Hi Perla, good luck, I hope the Ibuprofen helped.  Heat always helps me, either an electric blanket or a heat pack, I am in lots of pain today and have been in bed lying next to my warm hubby and my heat pads, and we watched a movie, who said RA was all bad?  Good luck, from Janie. good luck, perlat!!  hope you feel relief!Did you take the ibprophen? It is an anti-inflammatory, like Aleve, so is a good choice.

I also agree about heat... heating pads or blankets, microwaveable rice packs, and a long soak in the bathtub is especially helpful before bed. It's 10:20pm for me right now so probably too late for you to read this... but you can try it tomorrow.

Good luck at your appt.
Good luck at your upcoming appointment!thanks guys. ill try to hot bath tonight. and yes, i did take the ibuprofen. it worked a little. better than the aleve though. when i take aleve, i feel like i didnt take anything.   I'm the opposite of you; ibuprofen doesn't do squat for me but naproxen (aleve) helps. I was taking 2400mg of ibuprofen a day and now I'm on 1000mg of naproxen a day with better results.

Good luck with your first appt. I hope your RD is a good one and that you get the treatment you need/deserve.Ooh, there was a really good article in Arthritis Today about getting the most out of each doctor's appt, how to come prepared and make sure you get all questions answered, etc.  I don't know if you can get it online, but they may have one in the waiting room!Actually, this is about PC visits.  But I wish I'd had it before my last RD visit!

Do be careful when taking high doses of NSAIDs - they can cause GI issues rather quickly.  800mg every 6 hours of ibuprofen is a whopper of a dose.  I would highly recommend running that by your doctor first, just to be safe. yeah, i was too scared to take two, so i just took one (400mg). and I only took it last night, not every six hours. my brother still needs those for his foot. thanks for the advice.
