Can someone help. I am going to start MTX 5 mg. every wednesday and I would like to know if you get sick from it. I think I tried it long ago but don't remember what happened. I am so scared. Because I have been sick for so long I don't want to add to it. I ask the doctor about folic acid and he said I would not need it at this time. I don't know why but I have been in a flare forever. I am so tired I can't even keep my eyes open half the time. The day is the worse for me. So if you could give me some advice how to take it and how to prevent side affects if there is any. JoanAwww Joan- I hope the MTX helps you. I started off on a low dose like you and every 2 weeks they added more because I was tolerating it well. I never felt sick from it. Originally because I was on a high dose of prednisone too they made me take prilosec every day. I always drink a full bottle of water on my way to work, eat breakfast and then take my medicine. Then I drink another full bottle of water. I hear it is very important when you take MTX. I never felt sick from it. I feel extra tired for a few days but not so bad that it stops me from anything.

Hi Joan.....some people get sick to their stomachs, others don't. I don't. Then, some people get very fatigued after taking it, but some don't. I don't get that either. I hate to tell you, but I think you'll just have to take it and see what happens. Hope nothing too extreme, and I hope it helps.I take it at dinner time so that "IF" there are side effects, I want to sleep through them. I drink alot of water the day I take it...and the next day.... otherwise I had experienced like a hang over headache.....
