Swine Flu Fears?? | Arthritis Information

Any members in NY? Anyone overly concerned about this Swine flu stuff? Sure does sound scary!I heard 10 students from New Zealand had contracted it while on vacation in Mexico.

No NY relatives but being careful.

I eard today on the radio that they think they've found someone here in MI with it.  They also said that it's waaaay to soon to freak out and not to fall pray to the media hype.

Me too, Snow.  I read yesterday that it isn't hitting people as hard here in the US as it is in Mexico.  That's encouraging.

I remember when I was in seventh grade having to stand in a loooong line to get the swine flu shot.  It was kinda fun because the whole town was there, all the kids from school too.
My prayers are with the folks down in Mexico.  They just can't catch a break lately.  Just saw on the news there was a 6.0 earthquake in Mexico City today too! I am very intrested in this as a huge portion of the curriculm this semster is on viruses.  I have been watching the major news stations and this is a different type of fllu.  Most illness hit the elderly and young hardest.  The majority of the deaths in this case are from people in their 20's and 30's.  They are saying it is because their immune system reacts so strongly.  It is this reaction that is causing the death.  Kinda like overkill.

Scary stuff.  One of my kids asked if this would be like the pandemic of 1918.  It is really too soon to tell.  Hopefully the media will report just facts and not scare people.  The timing is bad.  Many students just finished up spring break.  Mexico is always a popular tourist destination.
Its always something...

If we'd all just died of the Hanta Virus like we were supposed to, we wouldn't have to worry about the swine flu!

I'm going to head down to Walmart now and buy some masks and plenty of weather stripping. That way I'll be safe inside my house while I eat popcorn and watch the epic battle between the West Nile Virus infested Mosquitos and the Ebola laden Killer Bees. O goodness...that's awful. I wasn't trying to be glib. Just poking fun at the media. Perhaps not posting in good taste but, as I mentioned before, I was dropped on my head as a child! On a more positive note, I ran across something (didn't bookmark it - my bad) that some of the biological meds that many here are taking may be of use in blocking the virus-induced cytokine storm that seems to be the killer in this most recent flu epidemic (also the culprit in many of the SARS deaths and avian flu deaths)

My prayers are with the folks down in Mexico.  They just can't catch a break lately.  Just saw on the news there was a 6.0 earthquake in Mexico City today too!

No worriesSo you're saying that being on Humira could be in my benifit if things were to become wide spread?
So you're saying that being on Humira could be in my benifit if things were to become wide spread?
It won't stop you from getting the flu, but it might help tame an immune system run amok (cytokine storm) that seems to be the big problem.  The people dying are the young, healthy ones with robust immune systems.
