FMLA Leave | Arthritis Information

Has anyone had to apply for FMLA leave relative to their RA?  I am having a lot of flares lately and have exhausted my paid time off so my employer suggested I apply for intermittent leave due to serious health condition under the FMLA.  It's basically to protect my job.  Just curious if anyone else had done this and what their experience was like.

I've been on 0.7cc injectable MTX and will be adding Humira every other week as soon as I receive my RX.  Hoping that will make a big difference.  Also working with my boss on finding a less stressful position for me.  Anyone had any experience with that?  Know of any good resources on the impact of stress on RA?

THanks!
Kate
Sorry you are having such a hard time Kate and I hope you start feeling better. I don't know the answers to your questions but I believe there are others here that will respond who will.

Best of luck to you!
Hi Kate
You should request FMLA.  You can take the time intermittently and are allowed 12 weeks in a 12 month period.   The time is unpaid, but it's a protected leave and meant to provide eligible employees with time off due to a serious health condition.   You may also have rights under ADA, so take some time to understand that as well.   Sounds like you have a boss that is looking out for you.

Katie... so glad that you have an employer who is willing to help you ...  that goes a LONG way toward feeling better......believe me.

in addition to FMLA do you have short or long term leave?  If you need it, both these options are good for assisting you in a temporary way to stay home and take care of yourself.  (these are usually paid leaves at about 60-67% I think)

 Best to you!!
Just make sure your doctor knows how to fill out the form properly. The form will ask how long and when the doctor thinks you will need to be off work. My doctor put something like... How am I supposed to know when she'll have a flare? He did this on the first go round, then I told him what he needed to put down. "Wendy will be out intermittently when her RA flares over this year."  Make sure it's been approved before you claim to have it.
