mouth bump | Arthritis Information

I have heard of the dreaded MTX side-effect mouth sores, which folic acid is supposed to counteract.  Having recently increased MTX to 17.5 mg (7 tabs) I came up with a white bump inside my lip.  It's not an open sore or anything, just a bump.  It has gotten smaller since I managed to quit biting it for a few days.  Is this one of the sores, or are they more open like a cold sore?  It sure is slow to heal.

Of course it took me three or four weeks to get over my last cold.  Thanks for any info.
Blue, that is the way mine looked, only really sore!  I would just bump up my folic acid (as per my RD's instructions, IDK if you are on that or what dose?) and it would go away.  I found the over the counter supplement biotin very helpful as well.  I was taking 1g of folic acid a day while on MTX and she has kept me on this dose.  I also learned of Biotene mouth wash from friends here... that too seems to help!

I hope this info helps and you are up to snuff soon!
I have a bump under a tender tooth which I have been thinking is some kind of infection and that I probably need a root canal. I did have this checked by my dentist in December and the xray did not support a dying tooth. He put me on an antibiotic and I believe the bump got smaller but never went away and the tooth was less tender but it was never perfect.

Now I have some raised...I don't know what I want to call them...more like a line then a round bump on the insides of my cheeks. First it was just the right side- now I have one on the left....

Could this be MTX? I have just increased to the max dose of it a month ago to try and get me out of the flare  that started when I had to go off of it when I was on the antibiotic for this stupid tooth! This is so frustrating!
I thought MTX just caused canker sores....
I am sorry, bluehour! It must be painful when you bite it. I bit my tongue yesterday, and man that HURT! I had not bit my tongue in a long time.

I hope the bump goes away soon.
Sno- what are the symptoms besides the bumps? I looked inside my mouth with a flashlight but I don't see anything. Wouldn't thrush make you have a white coating? ooops I'll go clear it now! Thanks for the heads up!
I have an RD appt. on Thursday and I do plan on calling the dentist. I rinsed with straight peroxide early and now my mouth feels all dried out and kind of swollen...
Gee I think I just saw a coupon for it in a magazine I was reading too. I'll have to look for it. I grocery shop tomorrow. I tend to get terrible mouth ulscers with my meds and I tell you you will know it when you have it it is very painful. I can't eat or sleep when they get so bad. I have a paste called kenalog and then I have miracle mouthwash to use. I was held up on recieving my first dose of Remacade because they were so bad. I feel for anyone who has to deal with that problem because it just plain makes you sick. I take 2 folic acids daily but on Thurs. mtx day I don't take any. LauraWant, I get those lines too, because I grind my teeth and I think the skin gets pinched between my teeth and the mouth guard I wear on the bottom ones.  It goes away.
I have been taking 3 folic acids but just upped to four today to try and get this bump to go away.  Maybe it's something different because it does not hurt.
Blue- my cheek "lines" do not hurt but the bump on my gum hurts if I put my tongue on it.

Hmmm- I've been very tense lately- wonder if I've been grinding in my sleep...
Want, I bet that's what it is. I had my front teeth edges worn off before I realized what was going on at night. They'll never grow back, and I regret my idiot dentist didn't notice it. Please check it out and get a bite guard if you need one. You only get one set of teeth.
