Hey.  I'm Flash and I've been lurking here for awhile (over a year at least).   This board used to offer some really great support to a lota people, but lately there's been a few have really destroyed this for me.  Can anybody suggest some other RA boards that are supportive?  I'd prefer un-moderated but at this point will take anything. Yeah, me too. I haven't been here in awhile either. It seems that they can talk more about twinkies then helping out someone who needs it. When I first joined I was warned about the trolls. Maybe it's the prednisone that makes twinkies such an important topic. Go walk around the block and lose about 100 pounds. maybe you'll feel better.there is www.4ratalk.com They are some really nice people.

That is all I have experience with.
This is what's great about the internet - there's something for everyone.  And if you don't find what you like, go pick up a book on HTML/Java/etc and make your own site. I do not need to lose a 100lbs. I need to lose more like 70lbs.

I am known for my "air filled" posts. So... your comment does not bother me.

I support a lot of people on the board, as they do me too. If a post about twinkies bothers you, than by all means... leave. You are not for this board, if you do not get the twinkies post.

But do not come here "spaming" this board with your site. As... well... Lev will hound you for eternity about it. dont' let the door hit ya.....

why do these lurkers think that they need to announce their leaving the site??
dont' let the door hit ya..... Nope - but the husband bought Suzy-Q's the last time I made the mistake of asking him to stop by the store.  I had one earlier today.  Yum! Hey,

This is a pay for advertising website. See all the ads to the left of this thread? I mean c'mon, stealing is stealing. Where do you all set the limit on what your kids can steal. If 4 out of 15 people say it's okay for your kid to steal that little toy, is it okay for your kid to steal that little toy? Probably 4 out of 15 of you will say yes.

LEV
Flash,

Go, stay, comeback, it's your decision. I am so glad that the members have finally quit begging other members to not leave when they threaten to leave. No offense to you Flash.

LEV

Those ads to the left they are there for FREE, google did not pay him in advance to place those ads. And the site owner gets paid per-click. Those are adsense.

Google AdSense is a free program that enables website publishers of all sizes to display relevant Google ads and earn.
good one, Jas
Oh flash, please stay. I will miss you lurking on us! I always felt like someone was watching me, and now I know... it was you and ra_really_sux that were watching me.
No, it was the last twinkie, praying you wouldn't find him.

How much does AdWords Starter Edition cost?

With AdWords Starter Edition, you actually decide how much your own ads will cost. You set the price you'll pay each time a potential customer clicks your ad, and you set a budget that limits how much you spend overall.

Signup fee. First things first: You'll be charged a modest one-time activation fee when you create an AdWords account. (For new advertisers paying in US dollars, the fee is five dollars. To see the activation fee in other local currencies, visit the account fees finder.) After that, you pay only when your ad is seen and clicked by a potential customer, who will then be sent to a website you specify.

How much does a click cost? AdWords is somewhat like an auction: Each advertiser decides what a click is worth to them and then bids for it accordingly. Those bids, along with other factors like the quality of ads, are then used to determine which ad will appear in each situation. With Starter Edition, you have two bidding options: You can set your own maximum click price yourself, or you can let the AdWords Budget Optimizer set your bids to try and find you the most clicks possible within your budget. When you create a Starter Edition account, the Budget Optimizer is automatically enabled. That means you set a budget, and we'll set your cost-per-click for you. You can switch between Budget Optimizer and Max CPC at any time.

If you set your own maximum CPC, you might decide to pay as little as US.01 (one cent) each time a potential customer clicks your ad. You can also decide to pay US.00 or much more for each click. As you might guess, with a very low bid your ad may not show very often, while with a very high bid your ad may show quite a lot.

Your daily costs are determined by the prices you set and the number of clicks your ad receives. If you set a price of US.05 per click, for example, and your ad is clicked 25 times in one day, then your total charges for that day would be US.25.

In the same way, you might set a total monthly budget of just a few dollars, or as much as US00 a month or more. If you set a monthly budget of .00, which is about a dollar a day, then your ad will be halted each day after it collects a dollar's worth of clicks (20 clicks at five cents each, for example). The exact amounts you select are yours to choose. In most cases, your currency's smallest denomination (for example, one cent in US dollars) is the lowest amount you can select.

You can change your cost per click and your budget at any time -- even several times a day if you like. There is no long-term contract or minimum spending limit for AdWords. You can pause your campaign at any time, which means your ads will stop showing and won't generate any new charges.

The costs of competition. Your ad will compete with ads from other advertisers who also have set their own prices. Your success will be based on how much you bid, the quality of your ad, how many other people want to advertise on the same keywords, and other factors.

Very popular topics and keywords (such as real estate or hotels) can cost more because so many other people also want to advertise on them. If you set very low prices on those popular keywords, your ad may appear only rarely or not at all. If you set higher bids on very specific keywords, your ad is likely to appear more often, and in higher positions yielding more clicks, at the price you want.

You can get a rough idea of costs and traffic for certain keywords by using our Traffic Estimator.

Starter Edition costs vs. Standard Edition costs. The Starter Edition and Standard Edition of AdWords have the same activation fee and the same self-service system of costs. Both editions allow you to set the amount you're willing to pay for each ad and set a budget to limit how much you can be charged overall. In Starter Edition you set a monthly budget for your account, and in Standard Edition you set a daily budget for each campaign, but otherwise the budgets work the same way.

Ummm... no... last time I signed up a website for Ads by Google... it was TOTALLY FREE.

You click on the ads by google and it takes you to adsense. So... that means it is the free version he is running.
There's www.arthritis.org but they're moderated.  And www.roadback.org is also moderated.  I don't know of other unmoderated sites.
Good luck in your search,
Pip
I think anything with OT shouldn't be used to judge the site or what not.  Really?  And if it doesn't say OT but refers to Twinkies, it's probably not about RA, right?I can sorta understand what the poster was meaning when http://www.arthritisinsight.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=21963 can get pushed to page three in a blink. I saw it, read it, and the replies that were given were sufficient. No need for a reply from me.
I saw it, read it, and the replies that were given were sufficient. No need for a reply from me.
I hope they do a follow up and let us know whats going on........Did not like the sound of it.
Yeah, I know. It did not sound anything like the chest pains I have from the fibro. So... I was not even going to mention fibro. I've been away from a computer for a few days so am reading a few posts I missed, which means I'm replying late. In fact, I think I already answered the one Bodak and Joonie are referring to.

As for this member leaving, it made me curious. I counted and found that over half of the posts today were about RA. The other half were reminders to empty private messages, family news, and yes, some humor. I've only been here 8weeks or so and have learned how to utilize this forum.  If I am not interested in the topic or OT, I simply don't read it! I get a lot of info and support out of the RA half-of-the-posts and sometimes enjoy a good laugh for therapy.

???????? You joined just to say goodbye and ask for someplace else  to go lurk at? And you have not contributed this past year? At all?

Bye Bye

This site is different.....that's for sure; but different is what the majority of us here are looking for and that's what keeps us coming back.

I've been here just about as long as any of our current members and there are plenty of post that I start that get very little attention and quickly get pushed back several pages due to things like the twinkie thread and arguing over who said what about what. You learn to accept it and move on. Try not to take it personally....and by all means don't let it hurt your feelings so much that you go away angry.

I too find it strange when a "lurker" feels the need to announce that they are leaving because they don't like something that's going on here. Truth is; 9 times out of 10 you'll be back. Even long time members who get their panties in a wad about one thing or another and make a big show out of "I'm leaving and I won't be back.....so there!" Always come back. Granted; they change their ID and harrash members that they didn't like the first go around....but they always come back. THEN; they reappear as their old selfs and announce that they have come back to check in with old friends and check their PM boxes. Really?  It's an old game....and the majority of the people here know how to play it well.

So to you....."I'm leaving" I wish you good luck.

exactly....

and if a member/poster isn't mature enough to wade thorugh the stuff they want and toss out what they don't then their lack of concentration needs to be addressed.. that is the case with articles... online news... the daily paper.. conversations...anything...

deal with it.

another point..
when a thread is getting alot of attention, whether it be the twinkie thread or the APer thread.. NOTHING moves on the board...... THE thread of the day for the most attention stays at the top.. and basically it pushes nothing to another page...
it's multiple NEW threads that do that.....  So, the fact that some threads get more attention than others, is not relevant to the discussion at hand....

In the olden days on usenet the OBES-obligatory big exit speech-- was an artform. OBES remain a standard course of action for at least some netizens, although the form has lost much of its art.

I have only recently become aware of the game described by Lovie, "...they reappear as their old selfs and announce that they have come back to check in with old friends and check their PM boxes." Thanks Lovie for making it transparent for me.
Spelunker2009-04-29 07:50:43Truthfully I think these lurker/new members "leaving" are aliases of current members who are trying to make a point. If there is one thing I've learned here is you never know who you are really talking to. Personally I don't like it.It's a little sad that we no longer think "Oh, no....a new member doesn't like us, Please stay and give us another chance." Like WBF says; you just no longer trust whos who and who is legit and who's just playing these games. Truthfully many of us don't really care anymore.

We just move on. Gone today....forgotten tomorrow for the most part. People just move on and rarely do the ones fussing about leaving even seemed missed. Those leaving miss the forum far more than the forum misses them.

Sad but true.
I've got star crunches!! and a cheese cake I can make  want blueberry or cherry?

 oh and  popsicles!!!
It is too bad the the dog pack had to run another new member off. When people come in here and post as this one did, they are simply letting the board know that the most obvious posts on the board are the ones with all the squabbling as is going on on the AP thread. But the dog pack had to make a mockery, once again out of this posters thread. For the amount of time some of you spend on AI, and you know who you are, I think a part time job is in order. After all, if you can sit at your computer for 8 plus hours a day, you could certainly go to work and do a desk job. It is obvious that most of your fingers are not damaged.

No disrespect to any of you intended here but would you not think that a bit of tolerance would be suggested on a forum where support is the key ingredient of success? I mean, come on. Lets be kinder to one another here. Babs, you seem to be the alpha dog here. You need to tone down your message and quit showing your canines to everyone that enters. I thought you and Robin left here ?? Your back to give advice??
The thread is a scam #1. There are plenty of people here with the same sentiment as Babs- why is she singled out?oh Lorster.. showing my canines is better than showing ASS like you do.

keep your comments to yourself unless you wish to be a productive part of this site...

and thinking for ONE second that FLash is even a real person shows how bright you truly are....  the "majority" here knows better...... He was a FLASH in the pan...

Babs, you have NO idea who flash is. Flash could be a real person out there with RA or like you said..a flash in the pan. Does it matter? I do not know who any of you are, or for that matter if any of you really have RA. The problem began when you did not give Flash the benefit of the doubt. You ran him/her out of here by making little jokes and such. Shame on you. This is not support, it is bullying and you are the best of the best. lorster.... if he came here for support... he would have posted his question... you are not fooling any of us w/ this little attack of yours..

You may call me what you will........  doesn't make it so!

anyone who wants to know how supportive YOU are can take a peek at your recent posts...

YOU have an agenda darling.......
Hi Lorster. Are you back? I tried Pm'ing you when I saw you here but I think you are full...that was quick, or you forgot to clean out your PM box when you took a breakHey pin, clean out your box too, LOLBabs, Would you like to tell me what my agenda is? I can see that YOU are here to give warm, comforting support........
Hey pin, clean out your box too, LOL
OOps....Yeah, where is Lisa (InflamedOnline)? Let's ask her how supportive Lorster is? Lorster sure was supportive in trying to help Pincusion post InflamedOnline's personal information. Now that's the kind of support that everyone should support. Right. Another one of Pincusion's group of arhtritisinsight "evil" outers. Guard your personal information. Ask inflamedOnline.

Amen to that!
Why would any of you question why anyone is here? Why are all of you here? For the past two months, you have spent a great deal of your time bashing PIP. You are like wolves, you run in a pack and I see the pack is closing in on this thread....I'm waiting for the rest of the pack to get here. The smell of blood must be coming more apparent.I find it weird too and I'm not worried about saying it out loud. I visit lots of different types of forums and never once have I thought to myself "Let me join here just so I can tell these people I don't like it here and won't be back" Why would anyone care? This "Flash" just posted twice. This thread as well as one with a two word comment on the AP thread: "Interesting Topic".

Personally I think the start of this thread was to get feathers ruffled and it looks like since you've decided to comment Lorster they've gotten what they were going for. I see no reason to defend someone that is promised to be gone. What's the point?

We don't on a regular basis treat new comers rudely. Why a person would make a big deal out of their dislike for something when it really didn't directly involve them is just strange to me. UNLESS of course if it did directly involve them.

My goodness are you all mind readers as well as know it alls. I for one know that someone  tried to join the board just a few weeks ago, she said something no one agreed with and you all run her out of town...This was a member who was in a lot of need, shes on  another board now and turned up there in tears. You run in a pack and try to oust the ones who  you have no real use for. Its so sad, so so sad. What goes around , comes around...its a VERY true saying

Lev you are just soooo funny...
