makes perfect sense:

a growing number of Western health experts are recognizing the importance of increasing vitamin D intakes during the fall and winter months.

How provocative is that, say eh?
Question for Lynn49

I am an African-American with RA for 13 years and I live  in the Pacific Northwest where we only get sun 3 months maybe 4 months out of the year.  I started taking 1000IU of Vitamin D but I was told that I should be taking more with my condition and the onset of Osteopenia.  I'm just not sure if I should be taking 2000 or 4000 what would be good.

Can you help with this.

RA: Dx 1996
Meds: Orencia Prednisone, Fosamx, Folic Acid
Hey Y2S - have you had your vit D levels evaluated?  I'd start there, and then see what your doc says about how much to take. I agree with Jas Y2S, I just had a discussion about Vit.D on Mon. with my RD.  She had checked my levels last summer and I was low.  She is re-checking to see if I should continue with my current dose.  She said to watch for news coming down the pipes for new recommendations.

Your RD or PCP is a good place to start as well as reviewing the articles Lynn has posted on D.  Having that information under your belt when you go see a doctor will sure help!
