Is it all in my head?! | Arthritis Information

I have just moved to Wales in the UK, and not long after getting here started having bad pains in my hip and back, lots of swelling too.  Decided it might 'go away on its own', but after 2 wks gave in and went to a local GP. He said i'd been doing too much, even banned me from lifting and carrying my new god daughter

I was diagnosed by a rheumy in kent 2.5yrs ago and he reckoned i'd had it at least since a knee injury when i was 12! (i'm now 25)

Anyway, GP asks me to show him where most of pain is, show him, so i haul myself out of chair and turn around and he promptly pokes me, funnily enough right where it hurts!

so i have to say, quiet as i normally am, i lost my temper!  Said,  exactly what do you expect me to do in the mean time? i am allergic to anti inflammatory's  already taking pain killers and have an active 5yr old. I've not slept more than an hr and a half without waking for 4.5wks  and you think i can wait another week?!

needless to say, he did back down slightly and said they'd do the injection but only gave me 80mg instead of 120mg.  took 5 huge things of blood and talked to nurses about me over the top of my head as if i wasn't there!  saying this is the trouble with young people, they reckon they have the symptoms and don't wanna know when you explain the treatment!

I felt about 2 inches tall and have vowed never to set foot in that surgery again!

why do people think its ok to treat others this way? i wish i could inflict pain on them for about half an hour, coz i don't think they'd take it for much longer!!

sorry for ranting, but i just don't understand it!

wishing you all pain free and hassle free days!

Oh man! I am so sorry to hear about your terrible experience Tori! You're right-they need a good dose of pain for a little while! Is there a rheumatologist around where you're living now? DId the injection help at all? Hope you're feeling much better by now!

Take care!

Nichole

What an idiot!  You are quite right to not want to go there again.  What you need to remember is that doctors are just average joe bloggs with a medical degree.  That doesn't mean they have good people skills, no matter how good they are at medicine.  Maybe you should speak to your rheumatologist and ask if they know any good doctors in your area.

You are not alone.  I have to put up with the receptionist telling me there is nothing wrong with me.  I freely admit my syptoms are mild but I refuse to be bullied out of my rights as a patient.  My doctor is reasonably sympathetic but I am still waiting for a rheumatologists referral!

well today is the first day there's been any improvement, i have stopped feeling like i've run a marathon and aching from head to toe thank goodness

first time i've had  the injection so i didn't know what to expect except pain! but it wasn't as bad as i expected, more uncomfortable i guess

Tori;

What a jerk!! I'm one of the lucky ones. I didn't have to be referred and after much waisted time in the GP's office I referred myself to a RD. That was 11 years ago....I love my RD and he's one of the compassionate ones. They are out there...you just have to find them.

Hang in there. Glad the injection worked. I don't know what I'd do without them at times.
