hi guys, first I'm not moving! YAy.. too too stressful!

I'm going to be getting a used car soon and a scooter or wheelchair and wondering,
those who have cars and scooter.. what do you use, to take your scooter along?

What kind of scooter/ wheelchair do you have, thats easiest for road trips?

A trailer or , I've seen those things that have like 2 long steel rods ??

I really want to be able to get out and about,  bop around and see the ocean, on my scooter, explore new neighborhoods, go to the Zoo!!! weeeeeee

So, now I have to figure out,  how to take the scooter w/ me.
I'm getting either  a Toyota Prius/ or Rav 4 (used).. or Honda Crv.. those are my favs!

Not lots of $$ to spend, so what do you, yourself use?
What works best and is easiest?

Thanks~

I truly hope you have the best fun, they do come apart but I couldn't do it but some are easier than others to transport, ask them to show you at the shop and tell them what you want to do with it, it might make you buy a different model.  My scooter is called a "legend" and it travels at 10km p/h and stays charged up to 25km at once.  Much hugs, Janie.XX
Hi
I love my Rav4 but with the spare tire on the back door its not the best car to have a scooter rack
Janie
do you know Bob and Judith Allen?  I met Bob on another arthritis board and he was from Hervey Bay.

it does look cool..kind of like a sit down segwayyou can take seat off and have stand up segway...useful for whole family, 117 lbs Hi Whispered,  I love my little Zip'r 4 scooter. It comes apart into 4 parts with the heaviest being 29lbs. It fits into the back of my minivan. I can get each part out with one arm and assemble it in less than a minute and I'm ready to go. It is available in 3 wheels which is best for turns they say, but my 4 wheels is very stable and still easy to manuver.
I found mine, new, for less, on ebay, 3yrs ago. Mine is blue.

Hi Buckeye, no I don't think I know them, although the name sounds familiar, brain fog - they are probably my neighbours!!!!!  LOL Regards Janie.

I figured it was a long shot
I have a scooter and Love it.  I use it for family  walks along the coast , when we take the dog for a walk and if the sun is shining and I dont want to take the car to the local shop. I use to visit my friends toodid you know airlines will stow scooters at no extra charge...

That sounds Exactly what i'm looking for!!! Easy to take apart and stow!!
and yes I'm still getting a Toyota Prius!!

(don't want to turn this post into something else.. so pls post on american cars, elsewhere and ps be aware of how many of the parts are actually from other countries)..

I believe in buying THE best car, if American can't make it.. they need to learn!!

again cathym, Great pic and that really helps and encourage me!!!

Hi Whispered,
I have a scooter that we got at Costco, on sale, for 0. We had a rack put on the back of my Explorer, so I could drive it right on, then just lower the bar and turn the key to raise the scooter. But since my spine surgery last Dec., I haven't been driving, so we have taken my husband's car, a PRIUS!

Now, I couldn't do this alone, but I know there are people who can. We fit the scooter right in the trunk (hatchback). It comes apart in 3 pieces, and my husband just lifts them into the back of the car. He can even fit his golf clubs in with the scooter. When we get where we are going, he takes it out and it just slides back together (no tools).

Good luck! If you didn't have to transport it, I would recommend a power chair, but they are much more difficult to transport.

Good luck with yours. Mine was wonderful. Since my surgery, I haven't needed it, except for a trip to costco. ;)

Hugs, Nini
I want to get a remote control hamack, with GPS of course. I need a nap. But I need to to go shopping.
