The Kentucky Derby was won by Mine That Bird, a 50 to 1 chance.  Good for him.

Last year we had alot of Derby talk.
I know!!  Wow.. what a long shot that was... the announcer didn't even mention the horse after the initial start til he was in the lead!!

I've heard that it may not change any stakes for subsequent races because he is still a long shot even w/ the victory!
The way he took the lead was spectacular.  He was brought in from New Mexico.  One of the owners had a broken leg. What an exciting race and what a STAR.  The jockey was crazed with happiness and I don't blame him.  The horse was bought by the owner for ,000, which is even more amazing when you consider some of the horses running in the derby cost a million plus.  Lindyexactly LinB.. and I also heard the horse was brought by pick up and trailer .... and not fancy at all....

I love rags to riches stories!
People who make horses worth 1 million$$'s should be shot in the foot!

There is no need for a horse to be considered worth a million dollars. Heck... not even JoLo's keester should be insured for a million big ones.

Nothing in this world should be worth a million dollars, really.

I know there are houses that are, but I just do not see how, even after seeing them. I guess all the things put together total a million.
The horse is owned by the son of the man who testified against all the politicians he bribed in Alaska. Bill Allen made a deal with the prosecuters, I'll help you nail all these corrupt politicians, but you can never bring charges against any members of my family. So far, his testamony has put away 4 state legislators and lost the re-election of US Senator Ted Stevens. So instead of the owner of Mine That Bird watching the Kentucky Derby from jail, he has a horse that can never produce the real money maker in horse racing, offspring. Life is so ironic.

I loved the come from behind footage and the jockey's story, too bad the whole Cinderella thing is so tainted up here. That's right he's a gelding, forgot about that.  Interesting story about the owner.  I had no idea.  LThe national news coverage has not mentioned anything about the connection, course it was headlines in the Anchorage Daily News. "Victor Has Veco Ties, Bill Allen testified Mark Allen paid off legislator, but feds gave him immunity." Veco was the pipeline company Bill owned. Just goes to show there's not much happening up here that anyone in the lower 48 cares about. This year, we're 50 years old, happy birthday Alaska. Just 50 and already so corrupt.Hi Deidre, Oil and politics.....what a combination/   I bet you'll have some great celebrations for the 50th anniversary.  Lindy
