Bad side effects or something else? | Arthritis Information

I 've only been on the following meds since mid-march

celebrex

oxycontin

prednisone (a week and a half ago and only for 5 days)

cortizone shot (one month ago)

lost 10 pounds

hair loss

insomnia as well as fatigue (only sleep about 2hrs a day)

any ideas?

insomnia sounds like a fibro symptom.

Hair loss, probably from the pred.

and weight loss, probably from disease activity.

But I am probably wrong... but they do not sound like med side effects, except the hair loss one.

Ok looked it up and Celebrex can cause insomnia, as well as hair loss.

Seems like when I was on Celebrex my hair would thin and come out.

Keep in mind that each and every one of those symptoms can be related to stress.

prednisone can keep you awake at night. If you are on a high dose. The disease can make you loose wieght. At first high dose prednisone can also make you loose wieght. However in time prednisone will probably make you gain wieght. What dose of prednisone are you on?

Also by all means call your doctor.

for the prednisone it was 50 mg once daily, for five days

I have a new script to fill for 30mg for 7 days

Yes that amount of prednisone will keep you up at night. Sounds like it is being lowered gradually. Hang in there. Thank you milly...!

I suggest talking to your pharmacist and rheumatologist about these issues. Some could be side effects from one or more medications, or they could be from something else. Many folks do get insomnia from high doses of corticosteroids like prednisone. The hair loss and wieght loss you need to mention to your doctor. The doctors questionair always asks have you lost ten or more pounds this month and if so why? For me personnally I did continue to loose wieght when I was on my first dose of high dose prednisone. I was loosing wieght prior to that from the disease but it still continued for awhile.I did not mention it being the pred for the insomnia, because I thought she was not taking the pred anymore. But yeah... high doses of pred will cause insomnia. I get insomnia on anything over 10mg. Heck... I have been having insomnia, but mine is from fibro.

I hope you get to sleep more hours. Sleep is so hard to come by sometimes.
